In this afternoon workshop for beginners to bread, learn all about Portuguese bread traditions from the perspective of an artisan baker! We will cover bread making basics, different types of ferments and yeasts and will make sourdough wholemeal loaf, 100% rye and ‘broa’ (Portuguese corn-bread). Enjoy snack during the class and take home all the doughy delights that you'll make in the session. All materials and ingredients will be provided!

Hi, I'm Julia, an artisan baker from London.
In 2014, I swapped my design job for doughy hands and retrained as a baker. I moved to Lisbon two years ago and plan to set up my own bakery here - I currently work as freelance baker, am involved in a new restaurant here in Lisbon and I run supper clubs and other bespoke food events. In 2015, I also founded my own nomadic microbakery, The Bread Companion - a project that I started to encourage people to make their own sourdough bread and I have run a great many bread making workshops and educational events all over the place, from the Californian desert to an island in Sweden. I would love to share my skill with you in my new home.

We had an excellent experience with Loaf in Lisbon and Julia. From first communication, her flexibility with accommodating an allergy request and our kids, to the lesson itself. I felt the lesson was excellent value for the knowledge she shared and we left with loaves of yummy bread and recipes. We felt ready to bake bread at home ourselves by the end of the lesson and have done so in the weeks since. Julia had so many tips, tricks and feedback to share with us, the hands on class was really beneficial. Plus Julia is lovely, funny, welcoming and very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this experience to others, locals and travelers looking to create a fantastic memory.

Júlia is amazing host, super nice and friendly. Her view over bread making is simple and uncomplicated and at the same time you really go home knowing a lot about baking and full of delicious loaves of bread. I truly recommend this experience.
