Qué harás

We will meet at a specified location. We'll walk on an easy hiking trail or path, stopping regularly to look at the various flora that we encounter, learning identification keys, nutritional or healing properties, herbal lore, ideal ways/times to harvest and work with the plants/trees, and answering any questions that come up with regards to the specimen(s) we're looking at. The walk will take two hours, but we will not cover very much ground in that time (maximum 1.5 km, often less than this) because we'll spend most of our time examining the plants in detail.

I'm a Registered Herbalist and wild foods enthusiast with close to 20 years experience working with local wild plants as food and medicine. I run a private herbal clinic at my farm in Prince Edward County, ON. I also teach classes on herbal medicine and I lead wild edible and medicinal plant identification walks all around the Quinte area from spring to fall. I've trained and apprenticed with herbalists and foragers on Vancouver Island where I used to live, and also in this area where I have lived for the past 10 years. I love to share with others all the benefits that plant medicines and wild foods offer us, and to help people identify and learn how glean the offerings of the wild plant realm. I believe this helps us to feel more connected to the place that we're in, and more gratitude for all that the earth provides us.

We really enjoyed the foraging experience with Tamara. It's changed the way we look at the "weeds" in our yard! Highly recommend this experience.

Beyond the wineries, sandbanks and eateries there is a rich variety of flora and fauna in PEC that was highlighted from this tour. On a rainy day Tamara led us through a park/cemetery in Picton and went through diverse native plants that were literally under our noses (III never look at the "weeds" in our back yard in the same light again), we found capnip, japanese knotweed, motherwort, sumac, plantain and many more plants and learned about their culinary and medicinal usage. Highly recommended tour which would round out any visit to PEC for adults and children, also checkout Tamara's website which gives details on her upcoming workshops and her practice and farm https://hawthornherbals.com

Tamara was very knowledgable in the various wild plants of the area, and provided excellent tips regarding medicinal uses of some plants, while also warning of the dangers of others. Lots of info was provided!
