Qué harás

Relax and enjoy the scenery as we transport you in a comfortable tractor-drawn trailer around our 91 hectare traditional Exmoor hill farm with native Devon cattle, Exmoor horn sheep and Exmoor ponies.
A typical tour will involve visiting the rams and feeding them, checking the young cattle and feeding them and then viewing our breeding cattle and sheep. Our livestock are used to seeing the tractor, so we can get much closer than we would on foot.
On the way we talk about the unique challenges of farming in the uplands and topics like agricultural subsidies, conservation, how farming has shaped the culture and landscape of Exmoor and the ways in which farmers can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
We discuss lots of other things, too, including how the farm inspired our books.
The highlight for some people is meeting our Exmoor ponies.
An added bonus is the beautiful ever-changing scenery. A variety of wildlife can often be seen as well, from red deer to butterflies, so remember to bring your camera!
Back at the farmhouse you can enjoy tea, cake, ice cream and a chat.
Local produce is available to buy, including our own beef and lamb.
You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy beforehand.

We (Chris and Victoria Eveleigh) have been farming West Ilkerton for over thirty years, and we have raised our family here. We have welcomed many guests to our farm, and never tire of sharing it with others. No two days are the same - there's always something new to see!
Devon cattle and Exmoor horn sheep have been kept here for well over a century (we're third generation farmers) and we are passionate about conserving this living link with the past along with the farm's wildlife and beautiful scenery. The farm is in a Higher Level Stewardship Scheme.
Our home-produced beef and lamb can be bought direct from the farm, and we also deliver by 24 hour courier to most of the UK.
We have written and illustrated several children's books, published by Orion. The 'Katy's Ponies' series was inspired by our life at West Ilkerton.

Donde estarás

Our farm tour is off-road and will take you over fields not usually accessible to the public. The farm is split in two by a deep valley. The home side has fields that have been farmed for centuries, while the far side has larger fields and was open moorland until Victorian times. Both sides of the farm have spectacular views, with heather-clad moorland to the south and glimpses of the sea and the Welsh coast to the north

Fantastic tour of a working farm. We loved riding on the tractor’s trailer and seeing the beautiful landscape and animals. Victoria and Chris made us feel so welcome with our toddler and baby. Our toddler thoroughly enjoyed the chance to feed the sheep and horses!! We had a really magical day out and would thoroughly recommend the experience to other families.

Más consejos

This experience can be enjoyed by most people, but it's not suitable for those with severe mobility problems or conditions like a bad back because there are two steps into the trailer & the ride can be quite bumpy in places.
Some children may find it too long, as it takes just under 2 hours.
