Qué harás

You'll discover Tokyo's generous and diverse food-scene. Your host will introduce you to unique street foods like dango - a rice flour dumpling that’s covered with sweet soy sauce - or surprisingly delicious konbini supermarket fried chicken. Your host will effortlessly order with the eye of an expert - it helps to have a local around when you don’t speak Japanese!

You'll try unusual varieties of ramen infused with yuzu (a citrus fruits) and learn local hacks like buying sushi in department store basements and feel smug knowing that you’ve tasted the real Tokyo - not the tourist version.

Indulge in delicious sushi and explore the Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho alleyway's food stalls, trying new dishes and discovering local ingredients that you’ve never even heard of

It won’t be long before plates of grilled gyoza, fatty tuna sashimi and hiyayakko (silken tofu with soy and ginger) appear, and you’re cheering “kampai!” with the locals over regional sake.

Hi, I’m Nick, and I work alongside a brilliant team: Kenji, Kento, Martina and a bunch of adventurous local guides. Kenji is a funny and friendly guy with a love for night hikes and deep conversations, Kento is a Lover of sushi, Netflix and all things Tokyo, and Martina is a fun, funky language interpreter who spends her time in cafes, exploring the city, and hanging out in arcades. One thing we have in common is that we’re passionate about our city, and we want to share its world-renowned culinary culture with travelers like you. Join us on an unforgettable taste-tour through the heart of Tokyo, where Japanese cuisine is at its finest (and the convenience store chicken is pretty great too!).

Nick will be your prime point of contact during your booking process, helping to answer your questions and queries.

Donde estarás

From 8-seater sushi shops to ramshackle izakaya bars squeezed into lantern-lit alleyways, gleaming depachika - expansive food halls in the basements of luxurious department stores - to no-frills standing bars called tachinomiya. Visit the places where locals really eat and explore the neon-lit Shibuya district. From here, it’s a quick jaunt between towering skyscrapers to reach Ebisu, a trendy pocket of central Tokyo.

It was an okay experience. However, I don’t think I’d do it again. I got to try food and walk in areas I probably wouldn’t have. We didn’t have Nick as our guide, we had a guy named Kenji. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. I do feel bad that someone from our group got hurt at the end. It WASNT Kenji’s fault and he handled it amazingly.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Kenji (our guide). We had a great time wandering through the amazing food court beneath the department store! He gave us great advice all along the tour about great places to try on our own, along with interesting bits of local knowledge! He took extra effort to connect with and find out what each of us were interested in tasting. We tried some great foods all along the way. 10 stars ⭐️! Unfortunately a few of us had a small mishap while crossing the street on our way to one last stop and Kenji had to come to our rescue and hail us a cab. The rest of the group were able to carry on without us and ended the tour without us.

I wasn’t met by Nick but by another host who worked for City Unscripted. There was great communication beforehand, and my host was friendly. However, she didn’t seem particularly familiar with the area. We ate ramen, when downstairs to a department store food hall and ate some street food. However, this was the first time my guide had visited these areas. She was very nice, but not the local expert I was anticipating.

Kenji was very personable ! We were a group with varied ages and I liked that he went out of his way to engage with all members of the group! We learnt a lot about Japanese food and felt that he enjoyed being out with us and learning about us as much as we wanted to learn about him and like in Japan. He definitely made our group feel very comfortable
