Qué harás

We will be exploring the busiest rapid transit system in the Western Hemisphere and Western world, discovering the purpose, politics, and possibilities of the NYC subway!

Highlights:

• Uncover abandoned stations hidden in plain sight, including the famous 1904 City Hall Station.

• Explore a deep station where you would have needed scuba equipment only 10 years ago during catastrophic subway flooding.

• Remember the 9/11 terror attacks and stand on subway platforms which had totally collapsed under the WTC 20 years ago.

• Discover how to get to an old wine cellar under the Brooklyn Bridge from inside a subway station.

• Experience the newest downtown subway stations and discover NYC's other subway, the PATH train to New Jersey.

• Explore how the subway operates and learn about some of the technology keeping it moving 24/7.

• Learn about the past, present, and future of mass transit in the region.

Great for groups, teams, and team-building!

Note:

• Since our tour starts outside, a MetroCard swipe or OMNY tap will be required to enter the system.

• Please consider bringing comfortable shoes and water. Experience involves traversing an underground environment, and walking up and down many steps.

• This tour visits areas open to the public and does not access restricted areas.

• Exact route and tour length may vary slightly based on the MTA’s weekend schedule.

Hi! I am a big believer in big cities and fascinated by the urban transportation infrastructure that supports such levels of density and dynamism.

I am from NYC and I have previously worked for NYC Transit. I studied urban planning at school, and I am a licensed NYC tour guide, as well as an AICP certified urban planner. I am also a member of the Guides Association of NYC (GANYC).

I currently work on NYC infrastructure projects, advocate for public transit, and serve on the Board of Young Professionals in Transportation (YPT).

Ryan is a great tour guide, and I would recommend checking out one of his tours! I appreciated how he made it a pleasant experience despite the summer heat, showed us many things I had never seen, and his genuine passion. Rayn's knowledge of the topic goes deep, and unlike other guides, he does not make tons of corny jokes. This a great tour for visitors and NY'ers with a passion for the subway.

Where to begin. Rayn is a subway and public transit master. Not an expert, a true master of knowledge on NYC transit. This tour is enlightening to say the very least. Rayn will take you on a journey back in time to the turn of the 20th century when the subway tunnels were being constructed. There are relics of the golden years of subway transit at every corner of our subway system and Rayn happens to know where they are. I promise you will not regret your experience with Rayn and his train tour. Excellent.

Rayn’s tours are always great experiences. He is clearly extremely passionate about the topic and did not only share countless details (which I would never otherwise know), but created a compelling story to follow along the way. He was a true expert and professional, and also very thorough, courteous, and fun. Great value too, since he combines tours of abandoned, old, and brand new areas and uses all the sites to compare and contrast and share his expert vision for NYC. Learned a lot and definitely recommend!!!

Have you ever wondered about the NYC subway? How and why it ended up the way it did? What the purpose of everything is? And how it can be improved? Get an inside look with a former MTA researcher who is eager to impart his knowledge to both neophytes and subway enthusiasts alike. You'll not only learn a great deal, but you'll see and experience the effects of what you're learning. See some of the oldest, most historic train stations in North America all the way up to the brand-new Fulton Center and WTC Oculus. Explore Lower Manhattan the way it was meant to be - underground!
