Dive into the thrilling history of Prague’s Jewish Quarter

If you need to open special date for the tour, do not hesitate to ask.

If you are 3 and more people, contact me before booking - I will set you discounted price and you will get private tour.

We’ll explore the Prague’s “fifth” quarter and its stunning history.

Our walk will take us to one of the most captivating Jewish museums in Europe. We’ll step back into the 13th century, when Jews of Prague were forced to vacate their homes and settle in this area that eventually became a ghetto. In its original form the ghetto does no longer exist. It was mostly demolished and rebuilt to what we shall see. Even though, we can still admire some of those old edifices, like the synagogues and the old town hall.

We will step into the marvellous Old-New Synagogue, the oldest functioning synagogue in Europe, into the Spanish Synagogue, the most beautiful one, and into the Pinkas Synagogue, where the names of all Czech Jewish victims of the WWII holocaust are printed, alongside children drawings from the Terezín Ghetto.

Did you know that Hitler actually protected the Jewish Quarter? For a malevolent purpose... We will talk also about this.

I am professional tour guide and studied historian. Originally from Slovakia, I've been living in Prague for over 15 years and guiding for over 10 years. I have a professional licence provided by Jewish Museum and city of Prague. There is so much history within the Jewish area that is impossible to digest without a guide. Let me show you how important the Jewish community was in the medieval times and what had to suffer during WW2.

Jana was a wonderful tour guide - very knowledgeable and engaging. The concept of giving us “homework,” referenced at the beginning of the tour and handed to us without reading it, cemented the concept that our knowledge is a journey and we must work to maintain and deepen our understanding of what has brought us to today’s understanding. The complexities of Czech history are so very rich and the Jewish experience in particular is worthy of deep study. We are very glad to have joined the tour!

A memorable experience. Jana’s historical expertise is bar none. She obviously cares deeply about sharing her knowledge and painting a picture of the Jewish history in Prague through the ages. Jana also took the time to assess our understanding of Prague Jewish history, so as to personalize our tour further. I highly recommend Jana and any tour she may lead.

Jana was very professional and friendly. Her English is very good . She had decent knowledge of the area. I just wish her tour would have included a deeper understanding of the Jewish subjects as well as more detailed technical information about the various aspects of the synagogues.

Jana’s Jewish Prague tour was fantastic! She gave us maps and other materials to support our visits and she knew so much about the history of the Jews in Prague, as well as about Judaism and it’s customs and practices. She is very bright and knowledgeable and made sure to answer all of our questions. We brought our 11 year old son with us and I think it was a bit too in-depth for him, but that wasn’t Jana’s fault and I felt that even he learned some things!
