Local artist Rich Garr leads this safe [masked, socially distant] open-air exploration through the Gowanus waterfront. He is a longtime area artist focusing on public art and community. This walking tour is a multi-sensory collage featuring art, and responding to the area's renowned history and current events.

Swoon, Mast, Guild, Wolf Tits and other funky street artists are typically featured. So are historical landmarks, architectural gems, hidden art spaces, and the work of anonymous "green guerillas" and graffiti writers. While old pollution lingers, so do new issues surrounding gentrification and re-zoning. The area is changing rapidly, and this tour features real-time information and insight. This route changes by the month, but always passes quirky art and recreational spaces (climbing, shuffleboard, ax throwing, etc.). Local artists and businesses are always highlighted- classic pillars and young innovators alike.

We depart from The Old Stone House at the edge of Park Slope close to the F, G & R trains. The walk lasts about 1.5 hours and end at or near the Gowanus Dredgers boathouse and unique food and drink options.

Tickets often sell out, and cannot be purchased after 8am on the morning of the walk... so try to get them early!

Rich Garr is a local interdisciplinary artist and insider. He's got the stories behind the walls of renowned street artists, anonymous graffiti writers and canal side "green guerillas." He has intimate knowledge of the our waterfront neighborhood- both institutions like the Old Stone House, and hidden alternative art spaces like Ortega y Gasset gallery.

Rich holds a NYC Tour Guide license tour guide and is CPR / First Aid certified. He is a Gowanus artist who studied art & history and worked at the Cleveland Museum teaching art to youth. Upon returning to NYC he worked at the Brooklyn Museum helping plan interdisciplinary programming. Freelancing followed, as did an art studio in Gowanus Brooklyn.

The Gowans Art Walk is a must if you enjoy street art and getting to know an up and coming neighborhood in Brooklyn. Highly recommend it. The tour guide is fab, Artist Rich Garr!

Tours like this are what make us love living in NYC. Our Guide Rich was knowledgable, engaged and enthusiastic about his neighborhood, the history and the Art. If you are interested in Street Art - tagging, graffiti, full-blown street murals - this tour is for you. If you are interested in getting a 'deeper' look at Gowanus and its history and residents, this tour is for you. If you want to do something you've never done and see some things that you've never seen, this tour is for you! In short, go for a Walk with Rich and you will not regret it.

Great experience for my entire group. Farthest thing from touristy, in the best way possible. Got a very real and local point of view on Brooklyn and it’s artists and the effects of gentrification on the area. Super cool experience.

Very interesting and unique tour. I brought friends from out of town and we all enjoyed it! Especially recommend as an outdoor/COVID safe activity. The start/end times were a bit lackadaisical, but that was not an issue for us.

Art walk was an entertaining journey throughout the Gowanus neighborhood. The host is very tied into the area and is knowledge about the art and artists. His personal experience as an artist and connections make the tour a very unique one. The walk has also opened our eyes to street art outside of what we saw in the tour.

Great tour guide capturing the smallest and biggest art works, incorporating his own contributions and asking if others had their own to share along the way. learned the names of different graffiti styles and much more! highly recommend.
