Qué harás

This experience, for those 12 years old and up, includes learning all about alpacas as well as a trek around the farm while leading your own alpaca "buddy"! We begin in the Tuscan inspired barn, housing our horses and friendly donkey, "Jack". Starting with "Alpacas 101"-a 45 minute interactive talk regarding: origin, use, fleece, biology, breeding & behavior, you will become "Alpaca Experts"! Next we assign each person an alpaca and begin our trek. The trail starts across a bridge, up a wooded ravine and then along a fence adjacent to a 2,000 acre ranch where you will see beautiful vistas of the surrounding hills and mountains of Carmel Valley. We stop under a large oak trea for refreshments and interact with the alpacas. Continuing on the trail we go back to the pastures, passing horses, alpacas, goats and more stunning views of the Valley. There will be ample opportunities to engage with your furry friends and take photos of the landscape as well as the alpacas.
Other things to note: the Alpaca Trek is not suitable for children under 12.
Must be able to physically walk/hike up a moderately sloped trail while leading 150+ pound alpaca. Wear proper shoes for hiking. Running shoes/sneakers are ok. We will still go on the trek if there is light rain-so if this is the forecast bring rain hats/ponchos. Be sure to bring your camera or smartphone to take lots of photos!

Bonnie and Michael, both veterinarians, moved to L. A. in 1991. After a trip along scenic CA HWY 1, a fantasy to retire to a farm on the beautiful central coast transpired. We sold our veterinary practices in L.A. and in 2015 we moved to D'Jango Hill Farm, named after our rescue dog. The farm is home to a menagerie of animals, many of them rescues: a herd of alpacas, several horses, a mammoth donkey, giant tortoises, chickens, goats, pigs and a handsome ram rescued as a baby from a livestock auction, as well as a few dogs and cats! Bonnie is eager to share her hobby and passion for these adorable, quirky camelids. From yearly shearing, toenail trims, breeding and raising "crias" (baby alpacas), she has come to cherish her time with these incredible animals. We are eager to share our experience so you too can fall in love with alpacas!

Donde estarás

D'Jango Hill Farm is a unique combination of rescued animals (pigs, tortoises, dogs, cats, sheep, goats) as well as horses, chickens and a donkey nestled in the surrounding hills, mountains and valley. The barn where we meet the alpacas is a beautiful Tuscan inspired building (frequently mistaken for a house!). As you lead your furry alpaca friends on our farm trail, you will pass through a wooded ravine and emerge to stunning vistas.

So much fun and educational if you ever wanted to learn and get up close and personal with an alpaca! Loved that we got to engage and interact with our very own alpaca buddy. Would definitely do it again!

Bonnie and her husbands hosting was unparalleled. They made this alpaca experience unforgettable. The alpacas were incredibly well behaved and fun on the hike. Would definitely be back and recommend this to anyone who loves animals and enjoys being outside!

We joined this experience during our recent stay at Carmel Valley. We had such a great time, it was the highlight of our trip. It was educational and fun. We enjoyed learning about the farm and all the animals and especially alpacas. the trek with Alpacas was great. We got lucky with the weather and saw a beautiful view while we got to know all the Alpacas. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

What a fun way to spend the morning. A beautiful setting, an engaging barn-located classroom chat before heading out with our assigned alpacas on a jaunt around the farm. Relaxing stop halfway for snacks, human and alpacas both. Photo ops. Lots learned today and a lot of fun. Not recommended for feeble footed folk. Some terrain is sort of steep, just not a casual walk that’s all.

We are frequent visitors to Carmel and surrounding areas and had been looking for a new adventure. We thoroughly enjoyed our time as it combined beautiful views, interaction with friendly people and sweet animals. The hike was fun and the overall experience was informative. I felt the price was a value for such a unique & personal adventure. Hosts were very friendly and very helpful when it came to photo opps with the alpacas. Oh, and the alpacas were awesome as well! Loved our visit and would go back.
