Qué harás

Love honey? Love bees? Interested in visiting a unique apiary on a hotel roof in one of Australia’s coolest, busiest suburbs? Join a passionate inner city beekeeper on this unique experience and learn about the life of a colony, the role these fascinating animals play in our food production and taste the honey that they make. You’ll be suited up, right amongst the hives as we do an inspection and check the health and wellbeing of the colony.

We start with your arrival at the hotel in Kings Cross and, after walking up 6x flights of stairs (sorry!), we'll have a honey tasting (with tea / coffee and fresh scones) on the rooftop, surrounded by the inner city high-rise and views across the neighbourhood.

This leads beautifully into an overview of a colony and the lifecycle of a honey bee, queen and drones. We'll then "suit up" in a professional sting proof suit and light a smoker. After this we go to the hives and go through the process of doing a standard inspection.

The photos are from my apiary in the country. I will be updating them soon with photos from the new rooftop site!
I can also organise corporate team events for larger numbers either here in Potts Point or at my country apiary in Bowral. Just send me a PM. @bowralbeekeeing

I am a keen beekeeper and got my first hives at school. I love my bees for a whole bunch of reasons, from environmental impacts, through to the fascinating way they communicate and interact. And they make awesome honey!
I am a strong advocate for inclusion, the rights of LGBTIQA people and acknowledge that these experiences take place on Gadigal lands and that sovereignty was never ceded.

An amazing experience!! Loved every second and had such a great time hanging out with Hamish and his bee friends 🐝 Learnt so much about the honey process and how crazy it is that the honey can turn out differently depending on the time of year. Hamish is so knowledgeable!

Where do we start? Hamish was a lovely host! If your looking for an “experience” then this is it! Hamish has a wealth of knowledge and he is passionate about beekeeping, which made it so much fun!! When you walk away having both learnt something new and really enjoyed it, then it’s a bucket list adventure you should deffo undertake!!

It’s not often that a course not only exceeds your expectation but you find yourself lingering at the end because you’ve met such an interesting person! Hamish has a passion for his subject which is infection, a breadth of knowledge that only comes from practicing a craft for decades and an ability to share all of the above in a way that is accessible to complete beginners. We learnt so much and left full of enthusiasm and confidence to set up our own hive! 🐝🍯
