Why not combine richest dark chocolate with an epic Arizona desert hike that you will remember forever? Our Secret Scottsdale Chocolate Hike is:

-- 5 mile hike, 550' elevation gain
-- In the heart of the beautiful McDowell Mountains
-- 2.5 - 3 hours

......with the chance to sample delicious chocolate!

What's so secret? Well, the trails are difficult to access. And thus, we won't see many people on our hike (unlike South Mountain or Gateway hikes). Hiking boots are optional as about half of our hike is on pavement!

There is tons of cactus and amazing mountain scenery to see and take pictures! I will have my camera. It will take about an hour to get to our chocolate indulgent lookout point, where on a clear day we can see for many, many miles. Our route back has several options depending on the time you have. Oh, and did I mention that there is chocolate?!

Hiking + spin fanatic and Arizonian through and through! I love my neighborhood, and I enjoy introducing my guests to this magical mountain range in the desert.

I grew up in Scottsdale, so I have hiked all over the valley since I was a child. I simply love Arizona and McDowell! I have also been around the globe as well, so we can share our best travel hiking stories.

I am a certified "super taster," so I enjoy sampling different chocolates to compare flavor notes. So in addition to having a great time exploring my backyard, you will learn a little more about a product category that we both love...and have a blast doing it!

McDowell Mountains are a mountain range in east Scottsdale that offer tremendous views and chance to see tons of cactus. Most tourists hike McDowell via Gateway trail in the Sonoran Preserve (that hike attracts hundreds, and quite frankly you don't need a guide for that one). We use a better route, accessible only if you know the area. It is a ridge hike right above neighborhoods of million dollar homes. Parking is tricky, but we know the way

This was a great hike and Jim was an outstanding guide and great source for information. We learned a lot about the area, local hiking spots, and chocolate. Highly recommended.

Jim was a great guide and showed some local hiking spots that tourists don’t know about. The trials were very quiet and peaceful with great views. The chocolate was a very nice touch!

Chocolate hike was a big highlight of our trip! Jim is awesome, so knowledgeable about the area but also just fun to talk to. Chocolate tasting was the added dimension that we didn’t know we needed on a beautiful hike. Highly recommend!
