With years of experience in the outdoors, from picking the perfect camp spot, to pitching a tent, fishing, and the all important damper baking - I'll make sure you are safe and comfortable, while enjoying a unique Aussie experience.

Scotty went out of his way to accommodate us on dates that suited us and we are so glad he did because it was the best thing we did on our five day Mudgee trip. We've never done an Airbnb Experience before but we immediately felt everything was going to go well when we met Scotty, an easy going Aussie bloke. We - a family of four with two teen boys aged 17 and 13 - met Scotty in Orange and followed him in our car to his boat at the dam where we parked. On the way to our camp, only accessible by boat, we saw eagles, roos, emus and other wildlife. In this instance Scotty had already set up camp, having camped the previous three days there. We were happy to see a portable camp toilet, but there was no shower (which we knew would be the case), as well as camp chairs and a gazebo. We were welcomed with delicious sandwiches made by Scotty's granny which the adults washed down with some cold beers we brought with us. He then took the boys out on his boat fishing. Our youngest caught two huge carp (which we did not eat as they don't taste very nice apparently, but nevertheless provided a lot of excitement) while we relaxed at camp taking in the wonderful views. Scotty provided pre-dinner nibbles and cooked dinner, while we played some games. After watching an incredible sunset, we sat round the camp fire, which our youngest had helped build and keep alight. Dinner was lamb hot pot cooked in a camp oven on the open fire. By this stage it was pitch black so we ate our food with head torches on! Scotty taught us a bit about the stars (which by the way were absolutely incredible) and later recited some Banjo Patterson poems. Our bedding was swags, complete with homemade quilts, which kept us warm, despite the 7C overnight. In the morning we awoke to incredible birdsong and cattle bellowing. We had a full cooked breakfast, billy tea and later on damper (made by our eldest) and salami, tomatoes and cheese for lunch. Scotty couldn't have done any more for us. He cooked, washed up and provided entertainment if we wanted it. It was like glamping with our own private butler. It's great for families who want to completely get away from it all - including wifi - and experience a bit of bush time without all the hard work.

This camping experience was sensational. Scott is a wonderful host, kind, confident, and friendly, a good Aussie bloke and a country gentleman as well. I came super stressed from work, wound up and unable to relax. I hadn’t ever really been camping before, actually, but I thought I’d take a chance on this - it seemed to be the thing that this cityslicker needed! On the first day, Scott took us looking for the perfect campsite. We sailed up river seeing some absolutely breathtaking bits of the water, inlets and in his boat until we found the perfect place - he helped us learn how to pick a good site to pitch camp. The scenery was breathtakingly wonderful. I often just sat and looked out at the water for hours, or walked to the top of a hill for a different view. I felt totally safe and looked after the whole time, while also given my own space to relax in my own way. I brought a book, but I mostly found myself staring at this extraordinary country- I had *no* idea how beautiful it is. The colours of the sky and the earth - the way the water stretches and curves out of sight. We cooked damper and had delicious meals (and billy-tea which made us feel like real bushmen!). Scott took us fishing and the boys caught a couple of carp (not good eating fish and a massive pest - stuff that I know now!). We saw eagles and roos and wild goats - and the odd lovely little water lizard. We drank mulled wine and learnt about the stars, played cards and the ukulele and I learnt how to make an rip-roaring fire. Scott set up the whole camp entirely by himself and we had very comfortable beds and bedding - I’ve never slept so well, frankly. Something about having such complete silence and no internet reception which means I wasn’t staring at my phone the whole time - who knew that that would make for a good night’s sleep!!? And the stars - when the night was clear - I had *no* idea there were so many of them! You don’t see any of this in the city… Scott also provided a solar panel and a fridge so all the food was kept nice and fresh. We swam in the river whenever we damn well pleased - it was cold, but wonderfully bracing, and Scott even recited some bush poetry around the campfire. It was an absolutely extraordinary time, and I know it sounds excessive, but I feel totally changed by the experience - more connected to the country that I grew up in than ever before. I wished that it could go on and on. I’ve already booked my next camping experience with Scott - I can’t recommend it highly enough!

I highly recommend this if you're after the ideal camping scenario away from civilisation or you're after that much needed break from the city life!
