Qué harás

Discover the traditions and culture of the Semai tribespeople.

We’ll drive 3 hours from Kuala Lumpur to a traditional Semai village, where we’ll stay in huts built by our native friends.

Guided by the local experts, we'll learn to weave accessories used for the Semai’s spiritual dances, practice shooting the traditional Semai hunting blowpipe and swim in a nearby river, just like the local do. Our meals will be a feast of indigenous dishes to be had in one of their homes.

On day two, we’ll hike one to two hours into the rainforest to search for the rafflesia flower, one of the largest on earth. Finally, we’ll swim in the cold waters of a nearby secluded waterfall.

I first visited the village in late 2016 to meet with one of the leaders of their Eco-tourism initiative, which happens to be the tribe name of the natives here, the SEMAI people.

From personal experience and alike most of the indigenous people in Peninsular Malaysia, they are naturally shy people. But as we kept the friendship and built trust through a few concerted efforts of organizing trips here, they have slowly embraced us like family.

Our Semai friends, we are well on our way to INSPIRE others to travel and adventure while EMPOWERING the local communities we work with.

I co-organize this with another Adventure Organizer, Jennyfer! She's of an even smaller native tribe originating from Borneo, the Kenyah people.

Adi & Jenifer were truly amazing - friendly yet professional, honest and structured. The village itself is uniquely disconnected by modern reality indeed and it is a rare chance to be invited. Definitely not anything you can organize alone. Give yourself a gift and enroll to the next trip!

This is truly an authentic experience. Even as a local, I have never experienced anything close to this. It really gives you a glimpse of how we may all be living different lives but at the end of the day we are all humans. We yearn and strive for the same things in life

The experience of visiting the Semai tribe with Adi and Jennifer is probably the most rewarding travelling experience I had so far. And I did travel quite a lot. What I most loved is being immersed in the culture and the simple life of the Semai people, sharing meals in their homes, playing and swimming with their kids in the river, enjoying with them their evening sports gatherings. The weaving and blow-pipe activities were awesome, and the jungle hike and hunt for the rafflesia flower was magic. We spotted 3 open flowers during the hike, for which they told me I was very lucky, and one flower growing on the tree with the flower vine going all the way up the trunk, reaching for the sunlight - as I was told. Adi said it's the 2nd time in 4 years he has seen a rafflesia flower on a tree, so I felt blessed to have had this opportunity on my first trip. The other enormous blessing, besides the experience of the trip itself, was having participated to the Thanksgiving lunch that the tribe organizes only once a year after the durian season. Food was delicious, and all the people so loving and openhearted. I only started to enjoy myself and would have really loved to stay longer. I will definitely come back to KL, if for nothing else, then to repeat the experience with Adi and Jen and return to visit the tribe, next time for as long as they let me stay!

The experience we had with Adi and Jen was really superb! Both of them are really nice and do their job both with excitement and passion and that's what you also feel as guest. The pick-up and transfer was accompanied by a lot of personal interaction which made us immediately feel welcome and also was great to get to know each other. The Semai people were also very welcoming and hospitable. The accommodation is simple but that's a great part of the experience itself. All the trips and activities were well chosen und guided very well and professionally. It was also great to see the passion and friendship of Adi and Jen with the locals and especially the children. We really learned a lot about the life of the locals and the jungle. The food was always super delicious, especially the fresh fruits which were picked right before the meal. Sedap! We truely recommend going local with Adi and Jen!! Terima kasih!

This was the best experience that I had in Malasya. Totally unexpected, I didn't know what would happen when I arrived and it was amazing. The hiking it was amazing...full of surprises. The most remarkable thing it is the way that they do his job, with love and passion. They take care of you all the time. I spent a great time with this beautiful Semai people...and I would like to come back one day, to spent more time there.
