Qué harás

Join my popular workshop and learn how to make delicious sushi pieces and other dishes in a short time—just 2.5 hours, including lunchtime. The sushi platter I'll teach you to make is home-style, which means you'll be able to make it easily in your own home. We will cook sushi rice from scratch using a regular pot, not a rice cooker, and you will learn how to cook perfect rice for sushi with my many tips. We'll make three kinds of sushi: a sushi roll, Inari sushi, and fresh salmon Aburi sushi. Everybody will love to cook Tamagoyaki—a Japanese omelet that we'll use for our sushi roll. For our Salmon Aburi sushi, we'll use a blow torch over salmon sashimi, which will be a highlight of the class. We will also make a home-style seasonal dish, miso soup, and fresh mochi with an unforgettable taste and texture for our dessert. All the recipes will be sent to you after class and I will also have instructions online to help you cook these dishes when you return home.

I've been teaching Japanese cooking to foreign visitors since 2016. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of Japanese food and cooking techniques, and find it exciting to meet new people from all over the world each time. I lived in the US for 10 years and graduated from culinary school in New York City. After working in a French restaurant, I attended graduate school and majored in food studies. When I returned to Japan, I attended traditional Japanese cooking classes and got my license as a sake sommelier. I am more than happy to share all my food experiences with people who love Japanese food.

We visited for Fukuko’s cooking experience with our children (17 and 14 years old) and had an amazing morning. From the very first moment we felt welcome in her home. The two and a half hours flew by as we prepared a feast of beautiful dishes. Fukuko had each of us very busy and was super patient as we attempted to replicate what she showed us, all the time explaining the different ingredients and methods. Our daughter has coeliac disease so can’t eat gluten. Fukuko catered for this without fuss. While we ate Fukuko talked with us about her culture and was interested to learn about our lives too. This was our favourite experience in Tokyo and I can’t recommend it highly enough, whether cooking is your thing or not. Thank you so much Fukuko.

Our family of 4 had a wonderful time cooking with Fukuko. She made our children, ages 12 and 9 feel so welcome and immersed them in the culture. Thank-you for such a fun time.

Fukuko was an absolutely amazing host, and went completely above and beyond. Her home is beautiful, and cooking in it is very relaxing. We made a lot of food, and it was all broken down very simply. You could approach this with no cooking knowledge and still enjoy it. I was so shocked at how much I enjoyed the class, Fukuko gave me guidance on what cooking supplies were worth purchasing and where I could do so. A family was with me during the class and the kids were participating, so it’s definitely family friendly. My friend who was supposed to take the class with me was having a bad case of allergies and stayed home. Fukuko decided to have me make him a plate as well and even packed it for me. I ended up asking him to come by since raw fish was involved. When he got there, the family was leaving and she felt bad he didn’t get to make food, so she sat with us for another hour and a half, showed us her sake collection, and answered every question we had about Japan and Japanese culture. It was like speaking to an old friend. I would highly recommend her class to everyone and have already done so.

Cooking with Fukuko was an absolute delight. She was very welcoming and made the experience feel personal. We learned how to cook different types of sushi and were introduced to some amazing Japanese comfort food. Fukuko also gave us some tips and advice on various dishes to try out while in Japan. This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience in a relaxed environment that ended in a delicious meal. Would recommend for anyone interested in learning how to cook traditional Japanese dishes at home.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent cooking with Fukuko. She was extremely welcoming upon arrival and reminded friendly and warm throughout the time we spent there. She was very informative on Japanese food and culture and provided detailed knowledge and experiences on all the foods used for cooking and more. We cooked a variety of traditional Japanese foods in which she explained and demonstrated where necessary perfectly. I would have no hesitation in recommending this class and we immensely enjoyed it. Thank you Fukuko.
