Qué harás

You've seen the puffins and learned about the Vikings. Now learn how to rant and roar like a true Newfoundlander (or Labradorian) on this quick-witted and well-informed walking tour of contemporary St. John's!

During our two hours together, we'll talk politics, look at home-grown memes, and figure out what really makes this province tick. I'll take you off the beaten tourist path and tell you some of the stories that get written out of our province's history. We'll discuss Newfoundland and Labrador's present and future as a globally-connected province with some big obstacles in its way. And all this against the backdrop of some of my favourite backstreets and hidden gems around the city!

Just get in touch with any questions before or after your booking - this tour all about you!

I grew up in St. John's and am so proud to call this weird and wacky place home. I'm Newfoundland's resident Rhodes Scholar, and I have a masters degree from Oxford University in political science, where I studied Newfoundland’s historical and contemporary development policy. These days, I am a full-time climate justice organizer in Newfoundland and Labrador. I’m really interested in engaging visitors to Newfoundland and locals alike in conversations about how we imagine Newfoundland’s past, present, and future.

10% of your ticket price goes to supporting a group of five community organizations: the Association for New Canadians, the St. John's Status of Women Council, the First Light St. John's Friendship Centre, the East Coast Trail and the The Independent

Donde estarás

The standard tour begins and ends in front of Battery Cafe in downtown St. John's. Our walk will take us through the Bannerman Park, Quidi Vidi, and downtown areas, and will take approximately two hours.

Stops include Her Majesty's Penitentiary, the Colonial Building, with many smaller stops along the way (and the occasional gallery!). We will use these locations to provoke discussions about what they represent to the people of our province.

Fantastic! Neria is passionate about Newfoundland and has tremendous knowledge and experience. She is extremely well informed and has plenty of world experience to draw on as well. We couldn’t have asked for better.

Neria is smart, personable and a great communicator with a delightful sense of humor. I learned so much about the history, politics and culture of the area. As an added bonus, midway in the walk, we sat in a beautiful park and enjoyed homemade scones and delicious blueberry jam Neria provided.

Neria was a fantastic very personal guide. Her insight into St.John’s was the best and her knowledge of the people and culture spot on. I highly recommend everyone visiting St.John’s to try. Thank you very much Neria.

The walking tour with Neira was both fun and informative. She covered the important parts of history that connected with the tour but also decked into much more about Newfoundland’s culture and the impact certain choices have today. She did not shy away from being in the real conversation about Newfoundland’s history or politics which created a dialogue that I appreciated. She’s super kind and knowledgeable and it felt way more intriguing than a basic history walking tour. She also adapted to the weather to ensure the group was comfortable. We even got the most delicious homemade scones. Thanks Neira for a great two hour tour!

We really recommend this tour! It is especially good if you are looking for something a little bit different. Neria has a fascinating background, both as a local and someone who is highly educated, bringing her worldly perspective back to her hometown. Her family has a long history here and she also understands the nuances of politics and the intersection of cultures very well.
