I am the founder of the social educative non profit project Pikala ( i'm originally from the Netherlands). We use the bicycle to give opportunities for Moroccan youth to become a bicycle guides or bicycle Mechanics. Morocco has a very young population but often you do not get to know them when you visit the country. I have trained some talented youth to give tourists a personal introduction into the moroccan Culture and to hear more stories of this new generation of Morocco.
Issam Facil and Khaoula El Haidi are representing the new moroccan generation!

In addition to this bicycle experience, we are hosting another cycling cultural tour: "Cycling adventure in Marrakech". More info here:

Acerca de la organización: Stichting Pikala

Foundation Pikala stimulates the inhabitants of Marrakech to rediscover the potential of the use of bicycle. It develops local involvement through education programs focused on mechanics and road safety; it offers job opportunities for youth as bicycle guide, mechanics and bicycle-courier and last but not least, it introduces environmental awareness through workshops, seminars and events.

Esta es una experiencia solidaria en la que todo lo que pagas se destina a Stichting Pikala.

Donde estarás

The ecolodge is an exceptional place to visit in the oasis and it won the first price as sustainable-tourism initiative in 2016. The traditional houses in Morocco are all made of the earth. In this lodge they have been experimenting by using traditional techniques with modern architectural aesthetics with a stunning outcome. We will be enjoying tea and homemade cookies in the shade of the garden. During the bicycle tour we'll make various stops.

Simply amazing ! The concept of Pikala, the tour in the palmeraie and the tiles factory, the snack in Jenna Villa, everything was worth it. Our guide, Badr, is the sweetest and made this exeprience memorable. Thanks !

Our host/guide Anaas was excellent! Everything went smoothly and the tour was fascinating! It was really interesting to learn about the history of Marrakech, survival, local villages/culture and about our guide - it was a really good mix and well paced bike tour. We didn't cycle that far to be honest and the bikes were really a means of getting from one location to another - so don't expect to be doing lots of miles or challenging terrain! The 'ovens' were really interesting and loved the tour showing how the tiles are made! Amazing how much goes into the process of making Moroccan tiles! Having freshly cooked lunch at the Riad was icing on the cake! The Pikala Bikes HQ is fascinating and all the staff [and dogs] are really friendly - could have easily spent the day tinkering with bikes in the workshop! Great day out and we came away with some amazing experiences! Thank you Pikala Bikes and Anaas - will be recommending to others visiting Marrakech!

Really nice experience, we enjoyed every moment of it. Our guide Badre told us a story of this place and led us through the spectacular route of Marrakesh desert, we saw how hard people work there and were told about their life. This ride shown us another side of the Marrakesh and made me respect people of Morocco even more. This was an unforgettable journey and definitely recommend it to every bicycle lover. The ride is not extreme at all and fits everybody who can ride a bike for a couple of hours. Hint: Drink more water on the ride and don't forget to cover your head.

You have to do this tour if you want to do something different than everyone else is doing. So close to the city centre but what a different world! Highly recommended to know more of the local life.

This tour was a really nice way to get a few miles out of the hectic smoke belching-scooter dodging Medina streets and just chill on an easy flat ride (on a pretty good mountain bike that handled the bumpy dirt roads well) among some palm tree groves while learning some interesting facts from our guide Anass about Marrakech and how it came to be. We learned / saw the whole process of tiles being manufactured (which was the most interesting stop on the tour), high fived some local kids & at the end had a nice small sampler meal of Moroccan food and mint tea back at the eco lodge at the end of the tour. I think we passed 2 motoscooters total on the whole tour (but lots of sheep, which are generally a lot more mellow and pleasant.) Lastly it felt really great to support such a cool community organization (Pikala - who organizes the tour) that employs the youth of Marrakech & promotes and repurposes bicycles. All their staff were very friendly and welcoming and I would gladly recommend their tours!
