Qué harás

The focus of our class is to teach you to make sourdough at home, with domestic appliances, under normal kitchen conditions.
You will learn to mix and shape your own sourdough in a totally hands-on experience, flour, dust and all! This will be done in defined stages with techniques, tips and some science along the way.
Being an interactive class, you will ask questions along the way, especially all the do's and don'ts for making sourdough successfully.
We will break for half an hour, where lunch will be served with a beverage. Also of offer during the break, is a tour of the Historic Arnott Bakehouse, to learn more about the history of the famous Arnott family baking family.
At the conclusion of the class, you can take a loaf of Morpeth Sourdough home and you will also have the opportunity to purchase baking tins and utensils.

This is a fun and informative class and no prior knowledge of sourdough is required.

I'm Allie your host and co-founder of Morpeth Sourdough bakery and a Master of Food Microbiology. Previously working for Australia's largest bakery I have detailed knowledge of food fermentations. So during our class I provide some of the science on sourdough. Together with Stephen Arnott, a sourdough master baker from one of the oldest baking families in Australia, we run our sourdough baking class in Morpeth, NSW. We've been baking sourdough since 2000 & retailing at the Historic Arnott Bakehouse, Morpeth since 2003. Our ancestors are famous bakers and you are probably most familiar with William Arnott, Stephen's g-g-great grandfather, founder of Arnott's Biscuits! His brother baked here at this site back in the 1860's. We make real, authentic sourdough, with texture and taste, the direct result of an extended dough fermentation process

What a great and fun course for those interested in sourdough bread making. Steve and Allie were very informative and interactive with the small group class. It was fabulous to learn the ‘science’ behind preparing your sourdough culture as well as learning about preparation and baking. I thoroughly enjoyed doing the course and keen to try everything I’ve learned today. Thank you Allie and Steve - lovely to meet you. Highly recommended course for those interested in the sourdough process.

What a wonderful experience! We learned so much from Allie and Steve and are inspired and equipped to bake our own loaves of sourdough. Allie and Steve are wonderful, thoughtful hosts who sent us home with sourdough culture, dough and flour. The lunch was also delicious 😋 Thank you for starting off our weekend in the Hunter in an interesting and fun way!!

Great course in a historical place. After 30 years flour milling experience, I have once again learnt a lot. Having Allie as a Food Technologist and Stephen as a hands on Baker all details of the Sourdough process was well explained. My wife and I can't wait to put it into practice and bake tasty healthy sourdough. I would highly recommend the course.

The sourdough class was a huge experience. We learnt so much about the process of making sourdough and enjoyed lots of hands on practice as well. Hosts were a wealth of knowledge and keen to pass on so much to us. Lunch was also great. A great day out.

My husband and I did this course and thoroughly enjoyed it! Both Stephen & Alison are very personable and made the course very enjoyable indeed! Lovely lunch, great interaction and learnt a lot! Hopefully now I’ll be more successful making loaves at home! At least we can reach out if we need to.

I got so much from the class and learning about the culture of microorganisms in sourdough was fascinating. Now the real test begins with accomplishing great loaves of Sourdough bread 😁
