Qué harás

This is a brand new experience where I would like to share some cooking from my childhood memories. In my cooking class guest will be given the opportunity to discover and make some traditional Maltese recipes. This is a hands-on activity where guests will be expected to roll up their sleeves and participate in the preparation of some genuine home-made cooking.

The cooking class will also include a visit to the main square which used to be the main source of food shopping. We will purchase fresh produce needed for our cooking class. This can include a visit to a cheesemonger, fish hawker, and butcher.

Recipes will vary from one day to another as some guest might want to come on more than one day. Therefore on Monday/Wednesday we plan to make our own savoury snacks such as pastizzi, a Gozitan ftira, and traditional nougat. On Friday we will do some traditional home cooking classics such as Sfineg ta' l-Ancova (anchovy fritters), Bragioli (beef olives), and Mqarret (date diamonds). We might even do some other recipes from our menu at Maldonado Bistro below.

After cooking we will enjoy the fruit of our endeavours as a lunch accompanied with some water and wine.

Guests will be given a copy of all recipes as well as a food souvenir to take home.
Other things to note
It is important to inform me of any food allergies and/or intolerances you might have. I can adapt the cooking class if I am informed in advance.

I can arrange a pick up and back from/to the Gozo ferry terminal if you are coming from the main island of Malta.

This experience is a Gozo "must do." George Larry is the owner as well as chef over several cooks and bakers at the highly regarded Maldonado Bistro on Gozo. He was a great teacher, very knowledgeable and passionate about cooking, ingredients, Gozo and Malta stories and culture...and he's fun. He designed a nice 4 item menu keeping health precautions in mind, ie we each made our own ftira and pastizzi. We used one of the two restaurant kitchens, got the recipes, remaining pastizzi and a portion of the nougat we made as takeaways. Grazzi for the fun class.

George and his assistant offered an amazing experience which lasted a lot longer than expected. We really enjoyed it and had a lot of fun with the other guests.

Great experience! Aside from the very thoughtful cooking class, George also takes you on a walk through the neighborhood. We learned how to cook 4 different recipes and George and his assistant Camille were amazing hosts. Everything was als suitable for vegetarions too. Definetly would recommend this Experience.

Der Kochkurs bei George und seiner tollen Gehilfin war wirklich klasse. Es hat super viel Spaß gemacht und dazu noch richtig gut geschmeckt. Wir haben viel gelacht und tolle Geschichten gehört. Vielen Dank euch beiden!!

Highly recommend this experience for anyone who enjoys cooking and learning new recipes. George gave a lot of background information about the food and its tradition and also shared some personal anecdotes.

I definitely recommend this class to everyone wanting to understand the maltesian kitchen a whole lot better. Even though we had a couple of extra wishes everything was well planned and we could even visit a local store with regional offers. The location was for real a dream. The recipes were delicious and I will try to recreate it at home :)
