Qué harás

I would like to share some cooking from my childhood memories. In my cooking class guest will be given the opportunity to discover and make some traditional Maltese recipes. This is a hands-on activity where guests will be expected to roll up their sleeves and participate in the preparation of some genuine home-made cooking.

The cooking class will also include a visit to the main square which used to be the main source of food shopping. We will purchase fresh produce needed for our cooking class. This can include a visit to a cheesemonger, fish hawker, and butcher.

We plan to make our own savoury snacks such as pastizzi, a Gozitan ftira, and traditional nougat.

After cooking we will enjoy the fruit of our endeavours as a lunch accompanied with some water and wine.

Guests will be given a copy of all recipes as well as a food souvenir to take home.

Other things to note

It is important to inform me of any food allergies and/or intolerances you might have. I can adapt the cooking class if I am informed in advance.

An enjoyable authentic few hours spent in Gozo: the tour around the square and local streets was a really lovely addition to the experience. Lots of hints and tips for the different dishes which I'm looking forward to putting into practice at home.

A really fun and informative experience. Would definitely recommend this cooking experience to other travelers. For us, it broke up the sightseeing and swimming with a day of laughs, stories, good company and comfort food! Nice time I’m in Gozo I intend to do George’s other experience; a wine tasting evening, or at least go in to the restaurant for dinner.

George has so much knoledge about cooking and he explained a lot of the cooking processes and why you should do this and not that, ect. Melissa his assistend during the workshop, was also wonderfull! It was a great experience and we are very exited to go back and eat his food in the restaurant.

Although I have stayed in many Airbnb’s this was my first time on an Airbnb experience and I loved it. George has created a great day out and a fabulous introduction to Gozitan cuisine. He and his lovely staff made the day a wonderful experience and a great start to our week in Gozo. I look forward to trying the recipes at home and will definitely be looking at Airbnb experiences in the future. If you are considering this experience get it booked - you will not regret it!

Nice workshop and plenty of food (we could take the leftovers so I had dinner for the evening), great to get to know some local dishes. I was a bit late (it’s really hard to find a parking spot in Victoria) but they were kind enough to wait for me!

This experience is a Gozo "must do." George Larry is the owner as well as chef over several cooks and bakers at the highly regarded Maldonado Bistro on Gozo. He was a great teacher, very knowledgeable and passionate about cooking, ingredients, Gozo and Malta stories and culture...and he's fun. He designed a nice 4 item menu keeping health precautions in mind, ie we each made our own ftira and pastizzi. We used one of the two restaurant kitchens, got the recipes, remaining pastizzi and a portion of the nougat we made as takeaways. Grazzi for the fun class.
