Qué harás

We retrieve horses we assign for today's ride. You will then learn how to groom, brush and comb their mane and tail. You will then be taught how to pick up the horse's hoof and how to pick them out to remove rocks and impediments before your ride. This is all part of the horse coming to understand that you will be in charge today. We will saddle and bridle the horse for you. Then, you will walk the horse, occasionally giving them commands that they must obey at your instruction. Once you display ground control, then we help you mount your horse. Once in the saddle, we’ll adjust your stirrups and hand you the reins and begin explaining to you reining techniques and verbal commands to which our horses respond (on a good day! LOL!). Our horses are not beaten down, trail horses. They have character. They have mostly good days, but just like you, they can have bad days, too, where they're stubborn or wanting to test you. Once you ride back and forth solo in front of the barn successfully, it's time to head out to the forest, meadows, and ridge lines. As your guide, I'll be describing the areas along the way, where wildlife frequently appears, names of mountain peaks around us, names of ponds we pass along the way, identification of general areas we can see and lots of riding tips and reminders along the way to help you have fun and stay as safe as possible.
Other things to note
Riding helmets NOT AVAILABLE here because of liability issues. If you desire such, you'll need to rent or buy in Flagstaff or other major cities and bring them with you. Adults will be required to sign a liability waiver for themselves and their minor children even though Arizona Law indemnifies us.

I am proficient in entry level instruction and providing guidance for good horsemanship. I’ve been riding around this area throughout all seasons for 7 years.. I guide all off property rides in the National Forest because these awesome rides include areas with no trails and tricky terrain. These rides go thru meadows and ridgetops with no trails, many to wonderful view sites, and all feature deep forest riding. My advanced training came from a famous, local horse whisperer, who is still my riding mentor to this day. I do not have beaten down, trail horses. I will teach you the commands (verbal and reigning) that they understand. And I’ll help you to establish control over your horse during a free and mandatory acquainting session in advance of the ride. I’ve hosted complete novices and advanced riders. All have given us rave reviews!

The Springvalley was a beautiful place to visit and the views of the mountains including Mt Humphrey as we made our way up one of the mountains was so beautiful. Joe and Barbara were great teachers and very patient with me, it was my first time riding and Magnum was so sweet with me.
