The Barn Retreat is a unique experience to stay in a completely renovated self contained dwelling within a historic barn.

El espacio
With 18th century charm, Shilo Farm offers comfortable accommodations with rejuvenation and convenience in mind. The feel of the home has been described as rustic elegant with an eclectic flair and our walls are filled with a unique collection of original art for inspiration and reflection.

The Barn Retreat is a unique opportunity to stay in a completely renovated self contained UNIT (cozy at 500 square feet) within a barn. No detail was overlooked during the creation of this space; from the river rock path inlayed in a cork floor to a shower flanked by two cedar tree trunks harvested from the property. On the first level there is a composting toilet that was custom built and made from western red cedar and a locally harvested cedar burl. There is a wood stove as well as a Rinnai Heater for those chilly nights and an air conditioner for the steamy ones. There is small refrigerator, a soapstone sink and hot plate for tea/coffee. We provide organic eggs, oil, as well as the makings for coffee and tea.

Sleeping arrangement: There is a King Sleep Number bed and twin on the second level. Within that same room is a loft with a twin mattress. The loft is accessed by a ladder and overlook the King bed. NOTE: The ladder is steep and ideal for children 7 and up. Weight Limit for loft space is 250 pounds. Ideally, the loft spaces are best suited for smaller adults or children as they resemble boat berths. Please take this into consideration one booking your stay.

Acceso de los huéspedes
Enjoy the serenity of the landscape while you sip on your morning coffee or tea. We invite our guests to join us in morning animal chores of collecting eggs and feeding the goats. Our fire pit is a wonderful evening activity after a day at the beach or enjoying the sites of Portsmouth.

We currently have long term tenants in our main house. Please respect their privacy.

We ask that you stay on the established trail through our wooded area and respect our neighbors privacy. There is poison ivy off trail as well, so take care. The boundary is marked with stakes.

Otros aspectos a destacar
We are using an enhanced cleaning protocol and run as Blueair HEPA filter for 24 hours between stays. All sheets, blankets, duvet covers and towels are being laundered on a high heat sanitization cycle between stays.

We have discontinued the shared food option with bulk cereals for concern about cross contamination. If you need anything for preparing a simple meal, please let us know!

Travel Resources: COVID-19
The health and safety of our visitors is our top priority. The Maine Tourism Association will keep visitors up to date with current closures, travel precautions, and resources related to COVID-19.

UPDATES TO CHECKLISTS AND OPENING DATES ARE GENERALLY POSTED ON WEDNESDAYS BY 5 PM ON THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEBSITE.

Out-of-state traveler information

Beginning Friday, June 12, residents of Vermont and New Hampshire may travel to Maine and stay in commercial lodging establishments with no quarantine requirement and no COVID testing required. Beginning Friday, July 3rd, residents of Connecticut, New York and New Jersey may also travel to Maine and stay in commercial lodging establishments with no quarantine requirement and no COVID testing required.

Beginning June 26th, visitors from all other states may come to Maine and stay in commercial lodging establishments if they EITHER:

quarantine for 14 days in Maine at a commercial lodging establishment (or the length of the stay if less than 14 days)
OR

sign a Certificate of Compliance stating that they have tested negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours before arriving in Maine, that they will quarantine in Maine for 14 days, or that they have already completed their quarantine in Maine.

For those who do quarantine, those regulations remain the same:

Beginning June 26th, out-of-state visitors (with the exception of residents of NH, VT, CT, NJ & NY) may quarantine in commercial lodging establishments for 14 days. During the quarantine, visitors cannot go to places with other people like restaurants, stores, and grocery stores, or pick up take-out. A lodging establishment may arrange for take-out, delivery, or grocery services for the visitors.
Visitors can leave their hotel room or campsite during these 14 days but only for limited outdoor activities such as hiking as long as they are not around other people.
Visitors can come to Maine and quarantine for the length of their stay if it is less than 14 days

Certificate of Compliance

All Maine lodging, campgrounds, seasonal rentals, overnight camps, and other commercial lodgings, such as Airbnb are required to have a Certificate of Compliance found here: wwwMaine.gov website.

Test Before You Arrive

Visitors are strongly encouraged test in their home state before traveling to Maine. However, the expanded testing capabilities of the state means that “safe and accessible testing will also extend to tourists, seasonal workers, and other visitors to Maine” without an order from a health care provider. Please visit the wwwMaine.gov website to find a nearby COVID test center.

Education and symptom checks

Maine college students in the health professions will be asking visitors in high-traffic places in tourist destinations, such as visitors’ centers and beach parking lot entrances, about symptoms and to offer advice on staying well. High-density private sector businesses, such as museums and retail stores, will be encouraged to use symptom checks as well.

The Department of Transportation will place signs at key sites – such as along major roadways entering Maine, State Parks, or State Ferries – instructing people to stay home or seek medical care if they have symptoms of COVID-19. These signs will also include the requirement that most out-of-state visitors quarantine or get tested for COVID-19.

Find the Keep Maine Healthy FAQS here.

Including information for both visitors and lodging establishments regarding testing and quarantine.

Travel Information from the Maine CDC

What do I do if I'm traveling or returning to Maine from out of state?

It is mandated that all out-of-state travelers coming into Maine, as well as Maine residents returning to Maine, complete a 14-day quarantine upon arrival. This means:

You need to arrive with enough food for 14 days or arrange to have food delivered to you. You cannot go out to grocery stores.
Stay at home. You cannot go out to public places.
Avoid contact with others, especially those who are at high risk of severe COVID-19 illness.
The State will allow adults who obtain and receive a negative COVID-19 test within the past 72 hours to forgo the 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Maine. Maine is strongly urging visitors to “Know Before You Go,” meaning they should get tested and receive their test results in their home state before traveling to Maine, which will allow them to take appropriate action depending on the result. Individuals may be tested upon arrival in Maine as well, but they must quarantine while awaiting the results.

Additionally, the State will exempt residents of New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York from the testing and 14-day quarantine requirement altogether because, when adjusted for population, the prevalence of active cases of COVID-19 in these states is similar to that in Maine. This exemption is effective immediately for travel and effective June 12 for stays in lodging establishments.

People who are not residents of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey or New York and are visiting Maine will be asked to sign a Certificate of Compliance indicating either that they have received a negative COVID-19 test result, that they will quarantine in Maine for 14 days, or that they have already completed their quarantine in Maine. This compliance form must be provided to check-in at all Maine lodging, campgrounds, seasonal rentals, overnight camps, and other commercial lodging, such as Airbnb. Visitors may be asked to furnish proof of the negative test result upon request. It will become effective July 1 (Stage 3) when lodging establishments may begin serving residents outside of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.

RESTAURANTS CHANGES FOR STAGE 2 (updated June 16th)

Dine-in restaurant service beginning June 1 is permitted in all counties EXCEPT: York, Cumberland, and Androscoggin. (restaurant checklist, updated May 27) Indoor dining in Androscoggin, Cumberland, and York counties can voluntarily resume on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. Also effective Wednesday, June 17 in Androscoggin, Cumberland, and York counties, bars, breweries, and tasting rooms are permitted to open for outdoor, seated service while gyms, nail salons, and tattoo parlors may also reopen, all with added health and safety protocols.

Surrounded by a mature diversity of trees, the Shilo Farm neighborhood is private, lush and serene. We do have neighbors, but they are hidden through the trees. We are set back from the road, which provides a lovely sense of privacy.

Jonas Zev Amberger has been a full time yoga teacher since 1997 and received a degree in cultural anthropology from the University of New Hampshire in 1991. He later went on to study at the Kalidas Sanskrit University in Nagpur, India, where he received a degree in Ayurvedic Medicine in 2004. He co-founded and directed YogaEast, a progressive school for Ashtanga yoga in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, from 2002 to 2006. He also founded and directed Yoga 5, a center for Ashtanga yoga and Ayurveda in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts from 2006 to 2008. Jonas says of his personal philosophy regarding yoga practice, “When I practice yoga, I move away from the external stimulation that tells me I should be this or do that. I reconnect with a true place inside myself that invites me to express myself authentically with confidence and clarity.” Amylyn has almost 20 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, working with people of all ages and abilities, with her passion lies in connecting animals with humans and considers it the ultimate healing experience. She also holds a degree in Outdoor Education and has spent many years guiding youth and adult groups into the wilderness and facilitating ropes course adventures. She spends much of her time in the vegetable gardens, cultivating the herb gardens and continuing to grow their vision of a sustainable and self sufficient life-style. In the summer months she loves to explore the the salt marshes in her kayak, biking the winding sea roads and surrounding herself in the beauty of nature. Together Amylyn and Jonas love to bring people together in a creative and nurturing way. Their home has been a hub for monthly community fires and they have hosted a number of bands for midsummer celebrations. They envision growing Shilo Farm into a place where friends, family and strangers alike can gather and share in music, food, and meaningful conversation. Our vision is always growing and we hope you can come and visit and be a part of our creative process!!!!
