Beautiful traditional brick house on a quiet hillside lane near the center of Sighnaghi with a gorgeous view of the Southern Caucasus mountains & the Alazani valley. Self-sufficient apartment with kitchen, modern bathroom with washing machine, and 2 bedrooms—one with a queen sized bed (new mattress in Sept'19) and a smaller room with a bunk bed with a full sized bed on the bottom and single on the top. You also have access to a spacious open upper floor with 2 additional single beds. Internet.

El espacio
Beautiful house on a quiet hillside lane near the center of Sighnaghi with a gorgeous view of the Southern Caucasus mountains & the Alazani valley. This is a renovated traditional two-story brick building on a quiet historic street in Sighnaghi, with a self-sufficient heated apartment on the lower level and a huge open room with breathtaking views of the southern Caucasus mountains on the upper floor. Clad inside with rustic Georgian brick, you should not expect to feel like you are in a modern house. (If you are looking for white-washed plaster walls, this is not the house for you!) On the main level is your apartment with two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom with tub+shower and washing machine. The larger bedroom has a queen-sized bed. The small bedroom has a set of bunkbeds, with a double mattress on the bottom and a single bed on top. High ceilings and traditional thick stone and brick walls help keep both floors of the building cool and comfortable during the summer. There is a recessed porch outside the entrance doors, perfect for staying out of the sun on hot summer days.

There is a recessed parking space in front of my house that can accommodate most sizes of cars, although you may need to park at a diagonal.

Acceso de los huéspedes
A second front door (the one on the right) as well as an adjoining door from the main bedroom open onto a small traditional supra (feasting) room with a fireplace. A steep staircase leads up to the upper floor. During the summer this upstairs space will be available for you to lounge in and enjoy the even more wonderful view of the Alazani valley and the Southern Caucasus mountains..

The upper level, which was designed to be a rehearsal & dance practice space, consists of a large open room with a second bathroom (with a shower) and a small balcony. This room has a sitting area to lounge in, hanging rope chairs and two twin-sized beds to provide extra sleeping space for guests if you wish to book the house for a larger group than four.

Sighnaghi, Región de Kajetia, Georgia

Sighnaghi is a compact little town and you can get everywhere you want within the town by foot. Although in the summertime you can rent quad bikes, Segways and ATVs if you want. Stroll around the city walls, follow trails in the forests on the outskirts, take a footpath shortcut to Bodbe Monastery.

I've lived and traveled so many places. Born and raised in California, studied at Princeton University in New Jersey, studied language for 9 months in Tokyo, Japan, traveled the old Silk Road route alone with a backpack for most of a year after finishing college, lived in Berkeley, CA and Washington, DC and Hopewell, NJ before becoming a long-time resident of Vermont. I now live much of the year in Chicago. A musician and singer, I have been co-director of the non-profit music organization Village Harmony since 1995 and as such I travel and teach widely in the summertime, both in the US and abroad. Over the years I've taken groups to sing and study music in SO many places—all over Europe, to Bulgaria and Ukraine, to Corsica and Ghana and South Africa. But the country I love bringing people to the most is Georgia. I first brought a group of singers to Sighnaghi in K'akheti in eastern Georgia in the summer of 2001. Smitten by Sighnaghi's location and old-time charm—and the wonderful singers of the local traditional music ensemble, Zedashe—I impulsively bought a lovely old house here. The house, with its two levels each with kitchen, bathroom and multiple bedrooms, became the base for many, many ensuing Village Harmony programs in Georgia. The upper floor just underwent a major renovation for AirBnb and the lower floor is currently primarily opened up for group rentals, with total space for up to 19 people to sleep. In 2006 I bought a second house, just a few steps away. It has also been fully renovated and includes a large upstairs rehearsal/conference room (which is rented out separately) and a lovely 2-bedroom downstairs apartment with a separate entrance. In addition I own the small house immediately next door which is awaiting a rebuild. When finished, the complete retreat complex formed by the three buildings will be able to comfortably accommodate visiting groups of 30 or more. My hope is to help house university and cultural groups from around the world to Sighnaghi coming here for residencies and music/dance workshops.
