Venecia, Véneto, Italia

The Dorsoduro district is definitely the most picturesque area of the city of Venice. Its name derives from the Italian for "hard ridge", due to its comparatively high, stable land. The most beautiful palaces were constructed starting from the sixth century. Thanks to the Accademia bridge, Dorsoduro district is linked to San Marco. This area is well known for its popular museums and attractions, as well as for its important religious sites like: the Gallerie dell'Accademia (a museum gallery of pre-19th-century art in Venice and northern Italy), the Peggy Guggenheim Collection (a modern art museum which was the home of the American heiress Peggy Guggenheim for three decades), the Punta della Dogana (an art museum located in one of Venice's old customs buildings opened in 2009 by the François Pinault Foundation), Cà Rezzonico Museum (a particularly notable example of the 18th century Venetian baroque and rococo architecture and interior decoration, and displays paintings by the leading Venetian painters of the period), the church of San Barnaba which housed the permanent exhibition “Leonardo Da Vinci in Venice” (also well know by the Indiana Jones’ fan), the confraternity buildings of the Scuola Grande dei Carmini and the Cà Foscari palace which is now the main office of the Ca' Foscari University of Venice. The most important churches are the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute (built by the Republic of Venice as a votive offering for the liberation of the city from the plague in the 1631), San Sebastiano, Gesuiti, San Trovaso, Ognissanti and the Church of San Nicolò dei Mendicoli which is one of the oldest churches in the city (in fact the present structure dates from about the 12th century). The Squero San Trovaso is one of the last gondola-yards. The building where it’s located is a mountain house because originally the craftsmen came from the mountains and they brought their culture. The word ‘squero’ is likely derived from the Venetian ‘squara’, the square ruler used by shipwrights – at least since the 17th century. The Fondamenta delle Zattere overlooks the Giudecca Canal and runs along the Dorsoduro district for all of its length. Approximately one kilometer long, it begins at the Maritime Station in San Basilio and reaches the Punta della Dogana, where the Giudecca Canal flows into the Bacino San Marco. Being entirely exposed to the south, it’s very sunny. A traditional destination for spring and summer walks served by several bars, ice-cream shops and restaurants. Last but not least, the Santa Margherita Square, the heart of the Dorsoduro district where you can find a greengrocer on aboard on a traditional boat (located next to the Pugni bridge), a fish market open in the morning from Tuesday to Saturday and the supermarket Conad open every day. There are bars, osterias, ice-cream shops, wineries, pizzerias and restaurants here. Also for this reason the Santa Margherita square is considered as the meeting point by students and Venetians.

Born and raised in Venice, since my childhood I have upheld the philosophies of my family: a healthy lifestyle and the love for nature. I found my true identity through my experience with the sea. I love sailing and all water sports, especially kitesurfing. After the degree at the Art Institute of Venice, I've worked as yacht Captain and after Sales Manager for a renowned shipyard. In 2008 I decided to change my life, living more in my home town. So, since that time I dedicated myself to management holiday apartments in Venice. I love to welcome my international guests and I'm happy to be able to reveal the secrets of my city. This is the main reason why in 2013 I decided to start hosting guests even in my own place. I also founded Antlos, an online booking platform for boat trips and I'm a partner of Sailogy, the leader yacht charters agency in Europe.
