Guests are always welcome in the courtyard, large garden, jungle gym, and the pool. The front lawn is great for soccer. Though these are shared spaces, guests often have exclusive use. Shared space downstairs also includes a second living room with a fireplace, the main kitchen, extra workspaces, and the large central hall with plenty of storage for bikes, extra luggage, or equipment.

Guest gear available for the beach or hikes: binoculars, bird books, beach umbrella, camping chairs, picnic blanket, cooler box with ice blocks.

Join us in the main kitchen downstairs for tea or coffee anytime.

A small library of novels, games, maps, and guidebooks is on hand in the lounge.

Ample off-street parking.

We love to meet our guests and offer any local advice we can. My office is on the property, so I often have the flexibility to say hello and answer your questions throughout the day.

***Some reviews for the downstairs listing have implied that this property is very elegant. As pleased as we are with that impression, the accommodation is not 5-star. We do hope, however, that it is always relaxing and comfortable and that guests will feel entirely free to ask for anything they need.

If your vehicle is towing a trailer, the driveway has one tight turn that could potentially be unmaneuverable. Best to unhitch for that corner and walk it around.

We welcome families, but our house is not toddler-safe; we are best for families with children under six months (not yet mobile) or over six years old due to the hazards of stairs, pool, and balconies. We have a wonderful collection of toys, stuffed animals, a dress-up basket, and our favorite children's books.

Hout Bay is a crescent valley between dramatic mountains. At the upper end of the valley is Constantia Nek (5 min away) and the start of the wine route (eight superb vineyards open to the public), and at the other end of the valley is the beach (10 min away) and the harbour with weekend markets, fish and chips, and boat rides.
Hout Bay is a great, central base from which to explore all of greater Cape Town—from the city (north) to Cape Point (south).
Our neighbourhood, in the upper end of the valley, is a mix of suburbia and smallholdings along the river.
