1BR Pine Cone Cottage is a bit of wild west and a bit of man cave shoehorned into a wee depression-era cottage in beautiful north central Washington State. Small but comfy, with wifi and smart HDTV (antenna/Netflix), this is a NW history lover's ideal base camp. Close to gorgeous lake/beach. The region is a hiker's paradise. Not suitable for children or the physically challenged. No pets. Discount and late checkout for 2-day bookings. Come and relax in the Okanogan!

El espacio
Pine Cone is one of my Kokanee Cottages -- the west half of what may be the world's smallest duplex. Even though it is a wee one-bedroom unit, it has everything you need to make your stay in the country a pleasure. Enjoy a full kitchen (albeit with no counter space) with a microwave, blender, crockpot, coffee maker, and espresso machine. Kick back with wifi, HD SmartTV, Blue-ray player and DVDs, and a library of classic western fiction (Louis L'Amour, Zane Grey), historical non-fiction, and modern suspense thrillers while lounging on the comfy leather couch and antique rocking chair. A classic wireframe bistro set let’s you dine in style. The antique double brass bed with 12-inch memory foam mattress and cotton sheets and quilts promises a great night's sleep. Gorgeous limited edition and vintage nature art prints line the walls. Not quite a man cave (although the beer signs in the kitchen make an effort), the cowboys and indians décor leans toward the masculine yet still has plenty of appeal for womenfolk. My son convinced me to hang on to the vintage blue bathroom fixtures, which are set off by my finest paint-by-number pictures (to keep the cottage humble). Check out my latest collection -- vintage cedar souvenir boxes.

Acceso de los huéspedes
You have access to Pine Cone Cottage (unit 2) and the shed where the smaller BBQ grill and camping/recreational equipment are stored (the bigger grill and deck chairs are stored outside in the summer). The yards between the cottages are shared spaces. There may or may not be guests (or me!) in the other Kokanee Cottages -- Tamarack (unit 1, other half of duplex) now pet-friendly, 2BR small pet-friendly Cottonwood (unit 3) and Saskatoon (unit 5), and Nootka Rose (unit 4). Lots of parking space in the gravel lot that fronts the cottages.

Otros aspectos a destacar
CORONA VIRUS COVID 19 Arrangements: At Kokanee Cottages, we have provided hand sanitizer and are imposing a 48-hour buffer between bookings, and do a thorough, sanitizing clean between bookings. No physical contact with host necessary (keys are in lockbox). Close to grocery store and (worst case) hospital. Wifi for teleworking. STAY SAFER IN A CUTE COUNTRY COTTAGE.

WINTER ALERT: As is typical in very old houses with unheated crawl spaces, if the weather gets below 27 degrees, all the water faucets need to dribble to prevent damage from pipes freezing. Guests booking during winter months MUST be willing to run the faucets (and listen to dribbling water) if there is a cold snap during their stay.

-- Cottonwood hosts the modem for the wifi for Tamrack, Pine Cone, and Nootka
Rose Cottages.

-- Garbage pickup is Thursday morning.

-- There is no mail service to the cottages, but the post office is just 6 blocks north and a General Delivery address can be set up for one month.

Ubicación

Okanogan, Washington, Estados Unidos

Geralyne’s vacation home is located in Okanogan, Washington, United States. The City of Okanogan (the county seat but in all respects a small town) is centrally located in Okanogan Valley in north central Washington, putting you right in the middle of a great area to explore and enjoy. The city pool and Okanogan River are two blocks away; Salmon Creek even closer. The city also boasts a historical museum and farmers market. A nice grocery store is just two blocks north of the cottages.

The best fries on the planet are served at The Club tavern, within walking distance. (Their burgers and steaks are awesome, too.) The best breakfasts are at the Stockyard Cafe, a local haunt that is off the tourist track, and Smallwoods (2 miles south), where you can also buy organic produce and artisanal foods (they smoke their own meats in the summer, try their Porker). The Breadline Cafe 4 miles north in Omak, check out their Saturday brunch.

Also in Omak is Valley Lanes, if you're inclined to go bowling, and who wouldn't be? Beautiful Omak Lake is a mere 9 miles away, a hidden gem on the Colville Reservation and thus far totally undeveloped except for outhouses at the gorgeous beach nestled between granite cliffs that are mysteriously not crawling with climbers practicing for El Capitan. Balance Rock is 3 miles farther along the lake (a very short hike from the road), and if fishing is your thing, the lake is teeming with Lahontan cutthroat.

The north central area of Washington state is still a bit of a mystery for many coasties, so nip on over and see what they haven't discovered yet. Come over one spectacular mountain pass and go back over another. Regional attractions are all easy day trips by car -- no more than 2 hours each way. Double back or see more by making loop trips.

Visit Bavarian-style Leavenworth, the Old West town of Winthrop, or the ghost town of Molson. Enjoy the beaches of Chelan or Penticton, B.C. Admire back road mountain and desert scenery (don't miss Grand Coulee) or lush orchards and vineyards (Canada's top wine-growing region starts at the border, my favorite winery is Blasted Church just south of Penticton). Stop to look at wildlife and take photos of a million postcard views. Hike, hunt for antiques, fossils, gold; go swimming, boating, fishing. Taste the local produce in season, or eat out at wonderful restaurants, cafes, and pubs.

Rodeos add excitement in summer – the Omak Stampede with its famous Suicide Race is just 4 miles from the cottage! My favorite used/new bookstore (Daydream Books) is at the north end of town (the little house with the lions out front). It's a great area to do a great many things, or even better, maybe, do absolutely nothing.

Durante tu estadía
I may or may not be in one of the other cottages during your stay - I live in Seattle but I’m frequently in Okanogan slowly sprucing up the cottages. I am, however, always accessible by phone or email, so we can stay in touch. When I'm in Seattle, a caretaker will be staying in one of the cottages, and the cleaning lady lives nearby.
