El espacio
Aprili House has been renovated using traditional Kakhetian building methods. Completed in 2016, the renovation was carried by local workers and artisans using materials and traditional ways of building. The works were designed by architect Nanuka Zaalishvili. The house is in a peaceful area of town, but only a short walk from the town centre with its shops, wine bars and restaurants.

On entering the house, you will find yourself on the upper gallery which has great views over the surrounding hills, Bodbe Monastery and the Caucasus mountains beyond. Leading off the gallery are two bedrooms; one master bedroom with a king sized bed and en suite shower room and toilet. Next to this is a large bedroom with up to three single beds that can be re-arranged to your liking. At the end of the gallery corridor is a sitting area for relaxing, reading, socialising, or just enjoying the views…

As you follow the stairs down to the lower gallery, you will pass the ‘Zedashe’ – a place of prayer and reflection that houses a ‘Qvevri’ traditionally used to make sacred wine. Immediately to the right is a shower room and toilet with a washing machine. Next to this is a small single room followed by a large double bedroom. At the end of the gallery is the kitchen that leads out to the outside area and patio garden.

The kitchen has a sunny eating area and is equipped with a gas cooker and fridge-freezer and everything else you would want to prepare and enjoy your own meals.

For winter use, the house is made warm and cosy with central heating and under floor heating.

I fell in love with Georgia and its people the very first time I visited the country. I feel lucky to be part of the Sighnaghi community with the families and friends that in the last 10 years have welcomed and made us part of their family. I love reading and sitting and relaxing in the plaza and cafes in Sighnaghi. I am particularly interested in Georgian crafts, weaving, wood carving, carpet making, and wine making of course!

Although I won't be there in person, Niko, our friend and handyman will welcome you. Niko's English is fairly good, so you can ask him anything you need. We have many friends in Sighnaghi and if you need some more information you can always pop into Pheasant's Tears Restaurant where you will be able to taste some great local wines and have a chat with the friendly staff in English.
