The Space
Welcome to a cozy private room in a house in the heart of the city of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh and a city brimming with history, culture, architecture, poetry, 'tehzeeb' and so much more. Our home is located 2 mins walk from Hussainganj Metro, a very central location from where the main markets Hazratganj, Aminabad, Charbagh Railway station, Airport, the Old Lucknow Heritage zone with the monuments, the new malls are all within 10 to 20 minute distances.

El espacio
Our home is on the ground floor and easily accessible even by disabled people. The room has a double bed for 2 people, and a folding bed can be provided at extra cost if there are 3 people or a couple with a child, an attached bathroom with all amenities (shower, geyser for hot water, western toilet, toileteries), a common verandah, air conditioner, room heater (for winters), cupboard, tables, chairs, wifi and many more amenities. Breakfast (vegetarian) is not included in the room pricing, but can be ordered on payment and will be served between 9 to 10 am. We also serve home made Lunch and Dinner on payment.

Acceso de los huéspedes
Guests can access the Verandah in front of the room.

Otros aspectos a destacar
Currently there is an overhead flyover being constructed on the main road near our home, hence you will find the road dug up and there is a blockade at the nearest crossing that does not allow cars to enter. However, if you tell the Serviceman posted at the blockade that you have a hotel booking and are travelling with luggage they will allow you to pass. This blockade should be removed in a few weeks as the construction work progresses.
I feed a few stray dogs, who are very friendly, and not the biting kind. Ocassionally they do enter our door and sit or sleep in the verandah. If you have a problem or fear of dogs, or if you are inconvenienced in any way because of the presence of the dogs please do inform the host.

What makes my neighbourhood special - location, location, location. Most visitors to lucknow come to explore the city and its heritage. If you happen to book yourself in a hotel or homestay in Gomtinagar, which is undoubtedly a posh area, you add 10-12 or more kms to your travel to the heritage zone, which is where most of the monuments of Lucknow are. While staying with us in the heart of Lucknow, you can access these places in 10-15 mins travel time by cab (4-5 kms distances). Not only that, our home is a 2 min walk from Hussainganj Metro station (in itself a place worth visiting - a model underground metro station with beautiful wall panels of chikankari and other craft of UP) . A ride to Hazratganj in the metro takes just 10 mins and Rs 15, getting to our home from the airport is so easy and cheap - 25 mins and Rs 40, the Lucknow university is 10 mins by metro, and Indiranagar and Munshipulia (the furthest station, nearer to Gomtinagar and close to most malls) is just Rs 40 by metro and 20 mins away. Other markets like Aminabad are 10 mins by autorickshaw. There are some beautiful parks just 2 kms away. An uber / ola cab to Gomti Riverfront for sightseeing would be just Rs 100 and 20 mins.

I left the Corporate world after working there for 20+ years in senior management capacities in HR. My last position was as Sr Vice President in an European investment bank and I have worked in the top Indian IT companies for many years. I'm passionate about Photography, World travel, Literature, History, Mythology, Food, Heritage, Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Social causes & activism, Healthy living, sharing intelligent, happy conversations. You could say I am a polymath and am ever curious to learn more about everything the world has to offer. Some of my best travel experiences have been in Bhutan, Egypt, Italy, Lebanon, Turkey, United States. I have extensively travelled through India - north, south, east and west and I love to share and hear about travel experiences that enrich us. Am a major movie buff...like all genres (except horror). Am passionate about music (listen to a lot of western classical and everything else).. Love reading. Some of the authors on my bookshelves - Hugh Prather, M Scott Peck, Ernest Hemingway, Jack Kerouac, Dominique Lapierre, Herman Hesse, Benjamin Franklin, Amartya Sen, Satyajit Ray, Amitav Ghosh, Shashi Tharoor, Jack Higgins, Jeffrey Archer, Linda Goodman, Scott Adams, John Steinbeck, James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, Theodore Zeldin, Ayn Rand, Paulo Coelho, Pablo Neruda, Kahlil Gibran, Daniel Goleman, Stephen Covey, Bill Bryson, Malcolm Gladwell, Seth Godin, Daniel Kahneman, Paramahansa Yogananda, Deepak Chopra, Osho, Gary Zukav, Rumi, Wayne Dyer, Patanjali, Henry David Thoreau, Emerson, William Blake, Rabindranath Tagore, Lao Tzu.....many many more. I love cooking and experimenting with new cuisines. I have cooked many dishes in Italian, Lebanese, South east asian, Mexican, Mediteranean cuisines apart from Indian cuisine. I have hosted people from all over the world - America, Russia, Greece, Bulgaria, Belgium, Italy, Turkey, Israel, Columbia, Brazil, Poland and have made several friends throughout the world. I've never had to stay in a hotel when travelling abroad as I usually always find a friend or acquaintance or someone I have met before who is willing to host me at their home. Exploring a new place with someone who has lived there and knows about its culture, heritage, the 'Go to' places, the must do things, brings a whole world of richness to one's travel experience, makes new friends, and I am fortunate to have been the host and hosted one in most of my travels. I took up photography, self taught, 9 years ago and became pretty good at it. 6 years ago I started doing paid photoshoots and now I teach photography. Those people I have clicked say I take amazing people portraits. I also love to click landscapes, heritage architecture, slice of life moments. I combine my love for exploring, culture and photography by doing custom shoots in natural outdoors. If you were staying with me as a guest in my Airbnb room in Lucknow, I would love to have conversations with you on all of the above things and more. Lucknow is a Historic city - also called the Constantinople of India, Shiraz-e-Hind and golden city of the east - the city of nawabs and kebabs (and Biryanis!), of architecture and history, of Urdu poetry and drama, of literature and culture, of chikan embroidery and zardozi, of performing arts and 'tehzeeb'. I'll create a bespoke experience for you for exploring the city. And if you wanted to learn how to take better photos, I could even teach you the fundamentals of good photography (which has nothing to do with an expensive camera. A smartphone with a decent camera is good enough). If you wanted my company while exploring the city, I could join you, provided I was free, and tell you all about Awadh's rich history, architecture, nawabs, food, embroidery, perfumes, people, things to do, places to visit and more, while also take amazing photos of you, which will have your friends saying, 'I want to go here too! ' . I look forward to hosting you on Airbnb.

We are two people in the home - my mother and I, and a full time cook and servant. Someone will always be available during your stay here. I am a photographer (you can follow my work on instagram) and heritage lover and active in city forums and groups involved with heritage. Most of my guests have vastly enjoyed their visit of lucknow with me as their heritage guide to the city and everything about it. I also conduct heritage walks to places of historical, cultural and architectural interest. I can make a customized itenerary for you so that you can have the absolute best possible stay, whether you are a culture, heritage, art lover, a food connoisseur or a shopping enthusiast. At a cost, I can even accompany you on local tours of the city and take you to places that many people are not aware of.
