'Atatū' means "just after sunrise" - our favourite time at the property - the sun travels across the sea to outline the hills and all is peaceful.

It's a great base for outdoor adventures, wine tasting, olive grove picnics, art gallery visits or delicious meals and craft beer in NZ's oldest pub, the Moutere Inn.

A glorious swimming pool and spa awaits you. The well-specced kitchen and BBQ ensure you'll have all you need to prepare sumptuous meals to complete your Nelson experience!

El espacio
Atatū sleeps eight people in four bedrooms with 3.5 bathrooms. (Complimentary Port-a-Cot available on request.)

The furniture reflects our many years living in Asia - a combination of Bali meets China, with some modern pieces thrown in.

Apart from lovely bed linen and fluffy towels, you’ll find waffle weave bathrobes in your room - perfect for your meander to the Nespresso machine in the morning before curling up on the daybed on the outside terrace, enjoying the birdsong and view, while planning your adventures for the day. Or, of course, as you make your way to the swimming pool and spa pool after a busy day of activities.

The home is always warm and cosy. If you need it, we have central heating with radiators in each room, there is a heat pump in the kitchen and a fire in the living room.

There is flexible check-in with a key safe/lock box. We'll send you the code for your stay in the Atatū/Hawkridge PDF (Hawkridge is the former name for the property).

We have a fully fenced front lawn with toddler-proof locks. There is a washer and dryer should you need it.

We only use environmentally friendly cleaning and body care products.

It's a wonderful space to hang out with family and friends. Enjoy!

* Swimming pool and gorgeous seating area will be installed over August and September 2020 - photos to come!

Acceso de los huéspedes
The house is all yours.

Otros aspectos a destacar
Monique, the on-site farm manager lives in the house down the drive with her young family so please no parties and no loud music late at night.

The villa is for maximum 8 people occupancy. We charge an additional amount per person after the first four guests to cover the extra costs of cleaning and linen use etc.

It's a no-smoking house but you are welcome to smoke on the terrace. Be careful to dispose of cigarette butts in the ashtray provided though as the Moutere can get very dry and is prone to fire!

The property is self-sufficient for water. Rainwater is collected on the roof, filtered and stored in large tanks before being UV filtered for drinking. It tastes amazing! Whilst we have plenty of capacity, please be conscious of your water use, especially during the summer months.

Atatū is a working farm and there are animals grazing on the property. Please do not explore the property without prior approval from Holiday Nelson or Monique as there are natural hazards - as you would expect with any working farm.

There is an unfenced pond in the valley, so it is important that children, especially, don not wander the property without supervision. The front garden is totally fenced off for parental peace of mind while you are enjoying the front deck.

Thanks in advance and enjoy yourselves!

Ubicación

Upper Moutere, Tasman, Nueva Zelanda

Atatū is close to some of the best outdoor and culinary experiences New Zealand has to offer, but without thronging tourist crowds.

German settlers arrived in the Moutere about 175 years ago and started its reputation for high quality artisanal products. There are vineyards, art galleries, cheese makers, olive oil producers, organic skin product creators and mushroom and berry growers to name a few. An annual local highlight is the Moutere Artisans Day on Labour Weekend - see their website for details - a weekend celebrating fabulous local produce with open workshops and cool events!

If you don’t feel like cooking, the Moutere Inn, the oldest pub in New Zealand, is only a 7 minute drive away. They have great craft beer, all their wines are sourced within 10 km of the Inn and their delicious meals are made from scratch in the Moutere Kitchen. The Moutere Hills vineyard (12 minutes drive) also has a very good restaurant for lunch or dinner. Kahurangi Estate Wines has Tastology - who provide a delicious range of local foods to accompany your wine tasting or to take back home. In 16 minutes' drive, you can reach the delicious water-front dining and art galleries in Mapua.

Nelson airport is only 30 minutes away by car.

We can put you in touch with scenic trips and fly fishing excursions run by an experienced local helicopter pilot. He knows the property well (he used to live there!) and can land on your front lawn to whisk you away.

Atatū is 5 km from the Tasman Great Taste Biking Trail (the Dovedale / Neudorf turnoff). We are in a great location if you want to do the circular route in stages and have a short break at Atatū to enjoy the Moutere.

Our Guide to Atatū also contains tips for some of the many, many adventure and culinary highlights for visitors exploring the region. In addition, there is a Lonely Planet Guidebook to the South Island at the house, as well as many brochures to browse through.

We hope you have an incredible stay.

We are a New Zealand - Austrian family who has lived and worked in Bangkok, Zurich and Singapore over the last 20 years. We travel as often as we can - often by Home Exchange or Air B n B because it's more fun and personal than a hotel. We love roaming local markets and cooking local produce. We were Superhosts in Singapore. Now we have a new listing in the Nelson, NZ area, which we hope will be equally as special to stay in. The interior design has been influenced by our various finds during our travels.
