Brackenber Byre is a pet friendly cosy cabin with a private garden and camp fire. You can stay safe in your own private bubble, in the Dales (No WiFi).

Enjoy the log fire, 100% cotton sheets, deep bath, luxury towels and Bluetooth speaker.

The Byre is in the beautiful landscape of the Westmorland Dales and the ideal location for biking, walking, photography, seeing wildlife & star gazing.

The Byre sleeps two in a double bed, is heated by a log burner, has a tiny kitchen, a bath and WC.

🚵🏼‍♂️ E-Bike Hire -
We have 4 electric bikes for hire. 2 e-mountain bikes and 2 easy to ride step-throughs. These super comfortable electric bikes are available to hire from £15 per bike. This includes helmets, locks, breakdown support and route ideas. Please book your bike well in advance, as we also rent them to other holiday lets. Call Jon on 07710 390 994 to make your reservation.

📷 Guided photography, history and wildlife walks with your host -
1) The Viaduct Walk - 4 hours, £25 per person.
2) Romano-British fortified settlement walk - 3 hours, £18 per person.
3) Night walk - 1.5 hours, £15 per person. (Safety brief required).

🪂 Hire a large stunt kite to fly on the fell. It’s big enough to nearly lift you off the ground on a windy day. Hire is £5 for 2 hours. (Safety brief required).

🍺 Nearest pub with fine dinning, an excellent drinks menu, real fires and a cozy bar. You can walk here in about 45 minutes - The Black Swan, Townhead Lane, Ravenstonedale. CA17 4NG. Tel 01539 623 204. The nearby Kings Head is now open and booking ahead is advised. Tel 015396 23050.

🍷Second nearest pub with a cozy real fire and vintage car theme. Food is variable! This is a lovely 8 mile round trip on the e-bikes or a nice drive - The Fat Lamb, Crossbank, Ravenstonedale, CA17 4LL. Tel 01539 623 242

🥾 Best nearest walks - The Viaduct walks. Smardale Viaduct route starts on Brownber Lane, just off High Lane, after the gate house. (Lat 54.4437, Long -2.4579) The Millennium Bridge walk is in Kirkby Stephen, just after the river on the B6259, Nateby Rd, on the way to Nateby. See http://www.nvt.org.uk/

🚂 The Settle and Carlisle Railway day trips - This is a unique British railway line as the Victorian architecture remains almost intact. Kirkby Stephen station is only 10 minutes drive away, on the A685, this side of Kirkby Stephen. Parking is free, and we recommend you head for the Charming Yorkshire Dales town of Settle or the bigger town of Skipton. Both have lots to do, and on the way home, get off at Ribblehead Viaduct for a walk and a drink at the Station Inn before jumping back on the train for Kirkby Stephen... Highly recommended! 🍫 The Chocolate Factory in Orton - Great shop and it has a cafe. Orton is a nice village with a pub and sometimes holds a farmers market on Saturdays between 9am and 2pm. Kennedy’s Fine Chocolates Ltd, The Old School, Orton. CA10 3RU. Also visit www.ortonfarmers.co.uk and the nearby Orton Scar Cafe.

⛰ Cross Keys Temperance Inn and Cautley Spout walk. The restaurant is famous for its Westmorland Crundle pudding and apparently the ham and eggs is highly recommended after a long walk on the Howgills or up the spout! Visit www.cautleyspout.co.uk

🦆 Bird watching and walking at Sunbiggin Tarn and Great Asby Scar, a dramatic isolated place just 10 minutes drive away, along the minor road from Orton to Crosby Garrett. This is an important wildlife site for birds such as Teal, Wigeon, Gadwall, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Great Crested Grebe, Snipe and possibly Jack Snipe. The scar contains some of the best examples of Limestone Pavement in Britain and the remains of a very important Romano-British fortified settlement.

🏰 Best nearest castles - Pendragon Castle is a ruin located in Mallerstang Dale, Cumbria, south of Kirkby Stephen, and close to the hamlet of Outhgill, at grid reference NY781025. A two inch long fire lighter, under a large handful of kindling with a couple of big logs on top should do it. Start with the vent fully open - lever to the right.
