Welcome to Goathaus, our midcentury modern retreat on the edge of Wisconsin’s famous peninsula. This expanded and newly renovated A-frame vacation home sits on the Niagara Escarpment, the bluff that runs through Canada to the falls of the same name. The wooded property feels like a quiet forest preserve, with water views from the living room, bedrooms, decks, balcony, fire pit, cliffside picnic area, and “Hammock Hill.”

El espacio
Goathaus accommodates up to ten people with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, including a first-floor master suite, with a newly opened-up space in the main part of the house that creates clear sight lines from front to back, and room to enjoy each other’s company—and places to escape when you’re tired of each other’s jokes. The home has just been updated with a new kitchen, picture windows, gas fireplace, furnace, water heater, plank flooring, bathroom fixtures, Scandinavian furniture, and more contemporary styling than, well, the typical Door County offering. It comes comfortably stocked with fresh linens, cookware, toiletries, games, books, and other provisions and diversions. The whole point of being here is to enjoy the indoors and outdoors equally, so be sure to indulge in the two decks, two balconies (sunrise and sunset), fire pit, charcoal grill, picnic table, cornhole, table tennis, ladder ball, ninja line, and five hammocks for taking in the tree-dappled sunlight and views of the bay.

A dónde irás

Sister Bay, Wisconsin, Estados Unidos

Turn left at Door County Ice Cream Factory and follow tree-canopied Beach Road, which runs between apple orchards and the bluff's edge. This is your path not only to Goathaus, but to the recreational and culinary delights of the two nearby Bays, Sister and Ellison. From our place, walk north past the largest house in Wisconsin (good luck seeing it past the trees) to the sweeping bay views at Ellison Bluff State Natural Area. Bring your bikes and you'll be within striking distance of more bars, restaurants, farms, trails, beaches, the Washington Island Ferry, and Newport State Park—one of only 48 dark sky parks in the world. We have a lot of favorites, but must-dos include Swedish pancakes at Al Johnson's, freshly smoked fish from Charlie's Smokehouse, a kayak trip through Mink River Estuary, a hike along coast-hugging Lynd Point Trail, a certain "hidden" beach...we could go one. And we will. Look for our insider recommendations in the home guide.

Need to flip that ratio.
