Relax with us at Ardilaun House in one of our spacious triple rooms.

Put the kettle on, lose all sense of time in the riverside garden or stoke the barbecue ... and delight in Ennis and the Irish countryside.

Just a 22-minute drive from Shannon Airport, Ennis is the just the place from which to explore Ireland’s mid-west—the Wild Atlantic Way, the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, the Burren, Bunratty Castle, Aillwee Cave, Lahinch, Lisdoonvarna and much, much more.

El espacio
At entrance-floor level, this triple room has both a double and a single bed ... a quiet oasis for the weary traveller.

As well as the en-suite bathroom, this spacious room has a dressing table, wardrobe a casual table with seating and includes a television, wifi and facilities for making tea and coffee. The breakfast room is a short walk down the corridor.

Ardilaun’s extensive garden includes an intimate riverside decked area with seating, tables and a barbecue. And, if you’d like to do a spot of fishing, then you can cook your catch on the barbecue.

The property has plenty of free parking but no car is needed for the 600m stroll to Ballyallia Lake, which has been recognised as a wetland of international importance and is a significant site for waterbirds. Access to lakeside walks is good and, in July and August only, kayaks and stand-up boards are available for hire. (See ‘Other things to note’ below for details of other attractions, amenities and services in and around Ennis.)

Ardilaun has invested in an ozone generator to facilitate the daily sterilisation of all rooms; in addition we are committed to following all current safety procedures.

Acceso de los huéspedes
Access to Ardilaun itself is made straightforward by the proximity of Shannon Airport ... just 22 minutes by car. Being so close to Shannon makes Ardilaun a perfect overnight stop before heading home.

From junction 14 of the motorway (M18)—from Shannon Airport to the south or Galway in the north— Ardilaun is a little over 3km (2 miles) south on the R458 in the direction of Ennis. For those arriving from other parts of Clare, Ardilaun is on the R458 between Ennis and Barefield.

Two bus services (Bus Eireann routes 51 and 343) operate every hour linking Shannon Airport and Ennis Bus & Railway Station; the former takes half an hour and route 343 an additional 15 minutes. Irish Rail also operates regular services between Galway and Limerick that stop at Ennis.

With no onward public transport to Ardilaun from the Station (it’s a 45-minute walk), arrangements can be made to collect our guests at the Bus & Railway Station.
For visitors arriving at Shannon Airport, pick-up can be arranged through a local and reliable taxi service (number available on request). By giving the driver your flight details, he will monitor its progress and be there on schedule.

Otros aspectos a destacar
As the county town of Clare, Ennis has managed to successfully retain its charm and its historical ambience while offering the visitor every modern amenity ... from first-class restaurants, from ‘eat-as-much-as-you-can’ to ‘bring-your own-bottle’, to traditional bars, many of which offer live music, good food or a quiet corner.

It is in May and November that Ennis bars and pubs are really buzzing for in these months there are traditional Irish music festivals. In addition, every March there is the renowned Ennis Book Club Festival which attracts writers with national and international status. Many of the musical and literary events associated with such festivals take place in the Glór, the thriving arts centre and theatre of which Ennis is justly proud.

A 400-metre walk from Aldilaun, the Auburn Lodge has both a bar and a restaurant; the town centre offers additional choice and has plenty of parking close to the many restaurants and bars. If you don’t fancy a night out in town, then many eateries offer a delivery service and there are dozens of Takeaways awaiting your call. Snacks and drinks can also be purchased at the nearby Lidl.

Ennis is generally well-served by public transport and, in addition to buses to and from Shannon Airport, Galway, Limerick and Cork, there are local routes to Ennistymon, Lahinch and the Cliffs of Moher, Kilrush and Kilkee and, in the opposite direction, Bunratty Castle. Local timetables can be found online: Buseireann and Dublincoach websites (Bunratty / Limerick / Dublin).

Ennis’ excellent Museum and Tourist Information Centre has abundant additional information on County Clare’s many attractions, as well as well detailed maps of the area. Day trips can be arranged that take in the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin and a boat trip to Inisheer, one of the Aran Islands; or from Carrigaholt you can head out into the mouth of the Shannon for a two-hour trip in search of the bottlenose dolphin.

If you’ve had your fill of sightseeing, then Clare still has much to offer both the more energetic traveller and those who prefer more leisurely pursuits ... everything from golf to fishing and horse-riding to surfing as well as limitless opportunities for taking to the hills or strolling idly by lake or sea.

And, if you’d like to get to know Ennis itself, there are daily walking tours (group and private tours can also be arranged) that will bring the town’s colourful past to life and, as well as tales of famine and poverty, murders and hangings, rebellions and riots ... you might pick up a few gems about Éamon de Valera, Ireland’s longest serving Taoiseach (Prime Minister) ... and even Mohammed Ali.
