Great little studio apt/writer's, artist's retreat overlooking our flower and vegetable garden with room to sit out on the deck under the huge mulberry tree. Large bathroom, studio size kitchen, bedroom/living area combined. Private living space over the stand alone garage. We are near tons of fun stuff to do downtown within walking distance. Museums, Guthrie Green, art galleries, ball park, BOK, Cox Center. Extra steps are being taken during pandemic for your safety... see Profile.

El espacio
There must be something that inspires the imagination at this little tree house. At least one novel has been written here, a handful of songs, a painting, a portion of a graduate thesis, say nothing of the amazing magnetic poetry I am greeted with upon the departure of most of our guests :-). To encourage creativity and enhance the 'retreat like' nature of the space, there are no electronics available, save lights and plug ins for your laptop/cellphone. I say we are in walking distance to the Brady Arts District, BOK, Cox and more. Our European guests and younger guests agree. Our older guest or those who are not used to taking a 10-12 block walk will not ;-). Our tree house apartment is next to a big mulberry tree in the back yard. ( please make note that it is a hefty climb up the stairs to get to the apt. ) The apt is cozy and is decorated in a woodsy kind of way. Double bed with new mattress. Absolutely no smoking/pets. I really don't want small children in the apt due to the very steep and numerous stair. I also request that there be no deep frying as we don't have a vent hood and it is a fire risk, and stinks up the place ;-). For long term stay there is a bunk bed area with ladder so you can store your suit cases if needed. We have all your cooking and eating supplies, fridge, microwave, stove. Claw leg tub. I will warn you in advance that it is a 100 year old tub or so.. and there are hard water stains and it is porous. It is not going to look shiny and new but it will be clean :-). In the warmer months the yard is really pretty. Not so much though in the winter. We have a veggie garden, multiple flower gardens and a water garden. We just added a little electric fireplace just for fun. It really puts off the heat but you don't need to use the heat if you just want to see the flames and use it for ambiance alone. Please note that this isn't a fancy hotel but a quaint little get away. Expect a nearly 100 year old property (We are on the National Register of Historic Places) where not every corner is straight, and some of the windows have a trick to them :-) I am very picky about smoking in my little get away. I don't know how many people have thought they could open a window and it wouldn't leave a trace. It does! We can smell it and so can the non smoking tenants who follow you. Please, please do not smoke in our little house. It makes me feel so good when people leave our home as they found it. It is a kindness, and I appreciate it. I especially like to read the new poems that you guys leave with the magnetic poetry on the fridge and look forward to seeing the strange new ways our little artist's model is posed :-) If you consider that this is an urban farm you will be a happy camper as there are water collection tanks, hoses, garden tools etc that you might not see at the average home. We use the space under the stairs as a garden storage area so there are all sorts of stakes, buckets, shovels, rakes and such. We also use the permaculture method of gardening and so even the garden isn't going to look like your standard, straight line, no weed garden... we eat many of the weeds and the edible ones are allowed to flourish where they wish. This is not a good place to bring your toddler due to the steep stairs and access to cleaning chemicals.
We want to make you as happy as we can, and we hope that you will give us a five star rating in return. I attempt to make you aware of every plus and minus so that you can give a five star rating for accuracy, location and cleanliness in all good conscience.
ball park, restaurants and more. Please be careful on the uneven, cracked driveway. We try to be as eco friendly as possible so when you arrive you will have to turn on AC or heat ( we do keep the heat on low in the winter so as not to freeze the pipes. We hang out the sheets and towels ( solar drier ;-) We ask that you turn off the lights, and AC before leaving and return the heat to the lower setting. Thanks!

Acceso de los huéspedes
Feel free to wander around the yard, and through the gardens, staying on the paths, of course. Stop and smell the roses ;-) My husband has asked me to add a request that guests park in such a way to leave us plenty of room to get safely out of our driveway. Thanks!

Otros aspectos a destacar
There are a few odds and ends of shampoo, toothpaste, conditioner in the bathroom, coffee, cream, sugar in the kitchen. There are also odds and ends of condiments in the fridge. Sometimes guests traveling by plane leave unopened goodies for you as well. Use whatever you wish.
Please check out before 10 or ask if you need more time. If there is no one booked that evening I am often open to a later check out. Just ask. I have a hairdryer in the big house that I can loan you if you forget yours. Also best not to run hair dryer/microwave/electric heater all at once.

Very walkable. Check out the community garden right behind our home and a little north on Cheyenne street. Walking distance from all the hotspots downtown and even a golf course. My husband and I feel very comfortable walking from the house to downtown by day but would suggest you drive or take an uber/lyft to get home after dark. You may see a homeless person or two as you near the downtown area and if that worries you in any way then I would suggest you drive or take an uber.
I will leave a list of my favorite downtown and near by haunts. Ask me if you are looking for something specific... great outdoors? great restaurants for every income level? free activities? route 66 must sees? Just ask.

During the Covid -19 pandemic we are ramping up our cleaning regimen to include a lot of disinfecting of every possible touched surface that we can think about All of our homes are self check in as we are doing our best to stick with the plan of social distancing during the virus. Any questions or concerns though, should be shared with us through a phone call or text. We are usually very quick to respond. We have lowered our fees for those who wish to stay longer to accommodate those long term guests, hospital workers or those who live in our city but can't go home due to the outbreak. We want your trip to be as stress free as possible so if you have any concerns, please let us know. Our very happiest guests are those who have read the entire descriptions of our properties and aren't surprised by an upstairs toilet in the basement apt, or no TV in the tree house retreat, for example. We want you to have the best trip you can in Tulsa and knowing what to expect is the first step to success. Scott and I live upstairs from the basement apt. The tree house apt is a separate building, The mother in law house and the Grey Bungalow off Route 66 are great options for easy access to downtown events, TU, Route 66, Cherry Street restaurants and activities. Scott is a marriage and family therapist, NPR radio music show host, musician, poet, writer, concert host. Our mother in law house (yellow house)on Cherry St. is right behind his office I am an artist and teach adult painting in Tulsa, and have worked for over 15 years with the Arts and Humanities Council as an artist in residence at Hillcrest Hospital. You will see some of my work in each property. Both Scott and I are writers, me with two how-to books on painting and one children's book on foraging, and Scott is a published author with his book of poetry and lyrics called These Stones, and an award winning song writer. We have books and paintings available for purchase in each property, If it is on the wall and signed by me... it can be purchased. For a full gallery check my website by googling my name, Margaret Aycock. We open our home to traveling musicians around twice a month and give them an opportunity to share their gifts with our house concert guests and hopefully send them on their way with a good meal, a good night's sleep and pockets full of gas money. If you are fortunate enough to book our place on one of those nights please let us know if you would like to join us. House concerts unlimited. We are both outdoorsy people who both grew up in farm country with a river in the back yard, mine in the Catskill Mountains and Scott in the Mississippi Delta. We have attempted to duplicate some of our childhood surroundings in the back yard of our main home with a water garden, flower gardens and a huge organic veggie garden. We love reading ( Scott was an English Lit major in college), going to great movies, catching free concerts at the Guthrie Green and visiting our favorite restaurants, and of course, hiking around in the wild places in Oklahoma. We love our neighborhood and city and if we have the time and you would like to, we are free to share our favorite spots with you... places to eat, hidden treasures, outdoor and indoor activities. Just ask. ( I also leave a list at each property) We try to be the best hosts we can be and welcome your five star reviews. Our happiest guests are those who fully read about our little getaways so they know exactly what to expect, and what not to expect. If there is anything we need to do that we have overlooked please inform us so that we can make your stay a five star stay. We know our little places are not like staying at a fancy hotel but what we have to offer is a warm, home like feel, with welcoming hosts who care about your comfort and enjoyment of our city.
