Welcome to Rose Cottage a charming and stylish 18th Century cottage on a quiet, no through lane in the Conservation part of the quintessentially English village of Dinton. The cottage has pretty views towards the Chilterns, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We are less than 45 minutes from London by train. Heathrow is our closest airport and a 50 minute drive away, making us the perfect stop on the way further west or north.

El espacio
Rose Cottage is a traditional Wychert and tile Grade 2 listed cottage full of the charm and quirks you would expect from an 18th century cottage, with the modern comforts from a recent sympathetic refurb.

You enter through the front stable door directly into the welcoming sitting room. The space has been thoughtfully decorated with a large sofa perfect for snuggling in front of the wood burning stove and watching a movie. There are views to the front and a corner with a desk and chair for catching up on those emails.
We have a large under stairs cupboard in this area stocked with games, books, local maps and our “bible” with suggestions for local walks, great local pubs and eateries and our favourite farm shops plus a few suggestions for excursions and a bit of local history.
The views to the front overlook open fields where seasonally you can watch the antics of the lambs and sheep and onto the Chiltern Hills in the distance.

The kitchen is at the back of the property looking toward the raised garden. This also has a lovely stable door you can throw open to let the morning light in.
Our Esse range cooker will be set at the perfect temperature to cook on, and keeps the kitchen toasty even on the coldest mornings. There is a Sheila maid clothes dryer above the stove.
In addition there is a microwave if you just want to heat something up and we have endeavoured to set the kitchen up for you to cook up a storm -you will even find a favourite cook book or two.
You will also find a traditional Belfast sink, washing machine ,larder fridge and separate freezer.
The table and chairs are also in the kitchen, overlooking the pretty outlook at the back.

There is a traditional boxed in staircase leading upstairs from the sitting room. Please note these are quite steep so care must be taken.
At the top of the stairs you will find the double height bedroom. This restful space has a Hypnos king size bed and mattress and Egyptian cotton bed linen from The White Company. The views from this room are to the front. There are exposed wooden floors with Indian silk rugs underfoot. Look up and you will see the stunning droplet chandelier that throws beautiful light over the room. Two built in wardrobes provide plenty of hanging space and there are under bed storage boxes for all your folding items. A pretty dressing table and lamp and antique mirror complete this space.

From the bedroom is the recently refitted bathroom. The bath has arguably the best view towards the Chilterns. There is also an over bath shower and a feature wallpaper on the wall behind the sink. Towels from The White Company hang on the full height towel warmer.

To the rear of the property, up some steps is a raised lawned area surrounded by cottage garden plants and to the side of the property is the wonderful sunny patio area with seating for up to six and a quirky stone wine cooler. This is the perfect spot to enjoy that G&T on a sunny evening.

A dónde irás

Aylesbury, Bucks, Reino Unido

The pretty village of Dinton is in the Aylesbury Vale. Rose Cottage is located on a no through lane at the bottom of the village surrounded by pretty farmland and thatched cottages, reminiscent of a Devon village. It is the first in a row of similarly floral named cottages, known as the flower cottages.

The village has a special feel and in fact many years ago during a particularly snowy Christmas a visitor likened it to a scene from the movie The Holiday.

We are so fortunate in the village to have a choice of eateries- the community owned Seven Stars pub& restaurant and a Belgian restaurant La Chouette are both within staggering distance of the cottage. There are three other pubs in local villages that are a short drive away or could be built into walks - descriptions are in our "bible" in the games cupboard.

We are blessed with many local farm shops producing wonderful food, more information on these is in our online guidebook.

An interesting fact about the chalk hills of the Chilterns is that they share similar topography to the wonderful sparkling wine producing areas of Sussex and Cornwall and we have our own vineyard in the village producing the extremely drinkable Dinton Folly sparkling wine- more about that later.

Another of Dinton’s claims to fame is it has been used more than once as a setting in the "Midsomer Murders" tv series . In fact there are local tours one can book which visit the local villages where many of the excerpts have been filmed.
In the 1940’s" Daughter Of Darkness", featuring a very young Honor Blackman was filmed in the village and Rose Cottage and the High Street can be seen.

We are surrounded by a choice of special places to visit- Waddesdon Manor is very close and it’s parkland Eythrope, which is full of Bridleways and public footpaths is accessed from the local village of Stone.
In addition to this we have the National Trust Property of Hartwell House and it’s spa within five miles.
Going the other direction towards the lovely market town of Thame is the village of Haddenham, with its traditional Buckinghamshire buildings, beautifully curated gift shop The White Hart and locally renowned Scandinavian coffee and lifestyle shop Norsk- great for breakfast after a big night. There are a couple of food shops in Haddenham plus a great local farm shop and cafe- Bradmoor and also on the same little precinct a great wine shop- Beerginvino, who stock our locally produced Dinton Folly sparkling wine.

Thame, about six miles away, is full of great bars and restaurants- we can highly recommend The Thatch and The Black Horse and if you fancy something a little more spicy The Rising Sun has an excellent Thai restaurant.
Thame is also where you will find your nearest larger supermarkets- Waitrose and Sainsbury’s and a Co-Op.

For excursions within an hour, we are about 35 minutes drive from Bicester Village Outlet Village. Bicester Heritage for classic car lovers, where there are often Scrambles, classic car shows and auctions. Also at Bicester Heritage is the award winning gin distillery Sky Wave, where tasting events often take place, plus the Wriggly Monkey brewery which has weekend events. Other local breweries include XT brewery in Long Crendon and Vale Brewery in Brill, both of which often have their wares on tap in the local pubs.

For Garden lovers in addition to the local Waddesdon, the beautiful Rousham Gardens are just a few miles further along from Bicester.

Waterperry house, gardens and garden centre are a short drive away and in the summer months they host a series of open air events including film nights, plays and musicals.

We are less than 40 minutes from the centre of Oxford and all the opportunities that brings and this in turn leads you onwards towards the Cotswolds where further day trips can be planned.

In the games cupboard we have a folder with suggestions for day trips and excursions that include, but are not limited to the suggestions above.
And as for restaurants and venues, we are fortunate to be surrounded by so much choice and are happy to make further recommendations.

¡Hola!
