THE RANQUET

The district Ranquet , created at the edge of the Etang de Berre , consists of " huts " and was built to promote conviviality and enjoy nature ( fishing, swimming, idleness ... ) . They are places where the resorts cabanonniers respected the doctrine : "Fai pas bon travaia quand la cigalo canto " * (* It is not good to work when the cicada sings ) .

SECURE THE BEACH OF RANQUET

Nestled in a green cove , 3 km from Istres Martigues towards the Ranquet has a small beach and the typical charm of the villages of huts .
A lifeguard from June to September can enjoy the pleasures of swimming safely , it also includes free parking , showers , toilets , water , floating dock and access to a restaurant and bar right on the beach .

RANQUET HISTORY

"Ranquet, fishing port"

It all began in 1917 when some families of Marseilles and Vaucluse are coming to build what will become the Ranquet few sheds, making history a "dismount."

The fishing boats moored to the banks and sheds will give this new district a fishing village character.

It must be said than before the Etang de Berre was full of fish (mussels, sea urchins, oysters, sea bass, Sardinia ...) as salty as the Mediterranean Sea.

For the record, Istres citizen formerly called the Etang de Berre, the "Berre Sea".

For the record, these highly charged waters limestone from the former gave a thick shell mussels and oysters larger than Mediterranean, many said they had exceptional flavor.

"Ranquet, loading port for salt"

Le Ranquet was also a salt load port function extracts of saline and saline Rassuen of Citis. Each salt had its own pier for loading salt. Once loaded on a boat, the salt was transported to the processing plants (soda ash).

Note that an underground tunnel connected the port of Ranquet saline pond of Citis. This tunnel still exists and contains pipelines that allow the transport of products used by factories.

"From the fishing district in Ranquet today "

From 1960, the Ranquet will experience a transformation of its habitat with sheds which gradually will become real homes , some main homes , vacation home for others.

Electricity and phone will arrive in the 70s .

Le Ranquet will be until the early 80 supplied with drinking water by tanker truck that had regularly feed the inhabitants .

The connection to the drinking water system will intervene in the mid- 80s and it was not until the 2000s for it to be connected to the sewerage system .

This area is the subject of particular attention because of the instability of the land " calcaéro marl " resulting retaining wall construction to support the hill on which the neighborhood was built .

Recent developments of Ranquet beaches in 2010 allow Istres resident to enjoy the joys of the beach and swimming close to home subject to a satisfactory water quality .

Today the Ranquet counts 450 houses and became over time a very pleasant district.
