“Historically, Obidos was presented to the Queen of Portugal on her wedding day, a tradition that began with Queen Urraca in 1214 and continued until the 19th century. This royal patronage has left an enduring legacy of pride within the town, and today it is one of the most characterful towns of central Portugal. For visitors, Obidos is a charming town to explore; there are narrow-cobbled streets, traditional painted houses, and an imposing medieval castle. Obidos may be just a small town, but there is no better example of a traditional Portuguese town than Obidos. The best method to travel to Obidos from Lisbon is by the express bus. The bus service departs from Campo Grande bus station, which is located on the green and yellow metro line. The journey takes 1 hour ”

“It is a romantic garden that embraces the old thermal hospital, built during the reign of D. João V. Refurbished in 1950, D. Carlos I Park was expanded to include the José Malhoa Museum and a restaurant. It is a point not to be missed today in the beautiful city of Caldas da Rainha, as well as the colorful fruit market and the Bordalliana Route.”

“The fruit and vegetable market in Praça da República is one of the curiosities of Caldas da Rainha. In the square are drawn the spaces that the merchants will occupy with their stalls. It is a colorful and lively show and the opportunity to enjoy some of the best productions in the surrounding regions. Open every day in the mornings.”

Point of Interest
“The mediaeval town of Óbidos is one of the most picturesque and well preserved in Portugal. Quite close to the capital and located on high ground near the Atlantic coast, Óbidos has had a strategic importance in the territory. It had already been settled prior to the Romans’ arrival in the Iberian Peninsula, and the town prospered after being chosen by the royal family. King Dinis offered it to his wife, Queen Isabel, in the 13th century, and it became part of Casa das Rainhas (Queens’ Estate), who improved and enriched it throughout the various dynasties. This is one of the main reasons for the high concentration of churches in this small place. You will find a well preserved castle within the walls, and a maze of streets and white houses that are a delight to stroll amongst. Along with the Manueline porticoes, the colourful window boxes and the small squares, many fine examples of religious and civil architecture from the town’s golden days provide a host of reasons for making a visit. Santa Maria Main Church, the Misericórdia Church, the Church of São Pedro, the Pillory and, beyond the walls, the Aqueduct and the round-shaped Senhor Jesus da Pedra Sanctuary, are just some of the landmarks that warrant an attentive visit. So does the Óbidos City Museum, where you will find the works of Josefa de Óbidos, an influential 17th century painter and a woman with an irreverent artistic stance for her time. Her paintings reflect her studies with the great masters of the time, such as the Spanish Zurbarán and Francisco de Herrera, and the Portuguese André Reinoso and Baltazar Gomes Figueira, her father.”

“Adopting a modern and entrepreneurial stance, Bordallo Pinheiro plays an essential role in the national and international revitalization of Portuguese ceramics and the artistic heritage of the founder of the Artistic Faience Factory, Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro. By maintaining the integrity of the tradition, using the naturalistic motifs at the origin of the great Bordallian project, along with the ancient manufacturing techniques, Bordallo Pinheiro inscribes its offer in contemporary times, thanks to the excellence and continuous reinvention of its production, both aesthetically and technician.”
