“ Amber's French Bakery & Cafe, one of the Frenchest places of Budapest, opened at the Fővám Square-end of Váci Street. The combination of a bakery, confectionery and café imitates the French countryside with its earthy colors, yet is still urban and modern, thanks to the spacious interior and lights. Their selection includes a multitude of colorful, creamy cakes with almonds, pistachio and salty peanuts, as well as sandwiches, salty baked goods, and the city’s largest éclairs. Moreover, their products are constantly renewed and changed seasonally. If you are passing by, be sure to grab a ham and cheese croissant with hot coffee!”

“BITE Bakery Café opened on Nyugati Square in 2013 proffering pretzels, tasty rolls topped with mascarpone, and delicious coffee concoctions; stepping inside, enticing scents welcome visitors, and the counter is full of generously filled, additive-free pastries. Since the opening, BITE has also introduced pretzel sandwiches, salty pies, and homemade muesli to their repertoire. The selection boasts pretzels, tasty rolls generously filled with mascarpone, and delicious coffee concoctions. We recommend to try all of the pretzel variations from plain to bacon and cheese-sausage. Furthermore, guests can also taste delicious cocoa rolls in various sizes.”

“15 min walk, 1,1 km One of the best 5 pastry shops in Budapest. Established in 1870. The original shop was destroyed by a bomb during WWII and then the state took ownership during the communist era. The Auguszts reopened their business in Fény utca in 1957 and they have been making delicious pastries, cakes and ice-creams according to the original recipes ever since. Try their krémes, bejgli or E80 cake. ”

“This café/bakery specializes in Kürtőskalács, a sweet, golden brown, spiral-shaped pastry that is mostly sold in Hungary at festivals and markets. The recipe comes from Transylvania, where they who used to bake Kürtőskalács for festive occasions, like weddings, christenings and Christmas. Mastering the kürtőskalács-baking-technique requires some special tools, including custom-made wooden pins, so it's not a pastry you would bake at home. At Molnár’s you can watch the entire baking process at their onsite bakery, where the pastry is always made fresh. Kürtőskalács is a must-try delicacy when in Hungary. You can have it plain or rolled into various toppings, my favourite is the cinnamon one.”
