Torre Abbey is integral to the history of the area. Long before Muntham existed or indeed the rest of Torquay existed a religious order was established by "white friars". Over time this monastery became one of the richest in all England until they fell foul of Henry VIII's Dissolution of The Monasteries. It then passed into the hands of the Cary family who lived there as one of Torquay's wealthiest families until their money ran out and they were forced to move in 1930. From then onwards it has had a third incarnation as a museum and home to the municipal art collection. Also on the site is "The Spanish Barn" where prisoners from wrecked ships of the Spanish Armada were kept. Today it is a wedding venue and exhibition space. There is also a fantastic walled garden with arid house and palm house and a Poison Garden inspired by Torquay born Agatha Christie.

Hoopers is quite a rarity in the modern World; an independently owned department store. Located on Torquay harbourside this upmarket store has exclusive brands in cosmetics, handbags and shoes. On other floors there are womenswear departments and a menswear department all offering products not available elsewhere in The English Riviera.
On the top floor is smart and modern restaurant with stunning views across Torquay harbour and the bay beyond.

Number Seven is an institution in Torquay. Although we have some other good fish restaurants, nothing really touches it. It is intimate, busy and informal. Not the cheapest dining option BUT it is value for money when you consider the quality.

7 Beacon HillNumber Seven is an institution in Torquay. Although we have some other good fish restaurants, nothing really touches it. It is intimate, busy and informal. Not the cheapest dining option BUT it is value for money when you consider the quality.
This Greek/Turkish restaurant is located just up from Torquay harbour and is incredibly popular with visitors and locals alike. The owners are wonderfully friendly and the food is superb.

This cinema appears to be incredibly run down and has the sort of semi abandoned appearance of somewhere you would expect to see in a Scooby Doo mystery.
Having said that, its saving grace is that it has got to be one of the cheapest cinemas anywhere in the country and it is normally really easy to park outside.

Kent's Pub is a nice well run pub with a friendly clientele. It is a place you can relax in and they do good food there too. It is only a five minute walk from The Muntham Apartments.

Getting Around
Torquay harbourside is really the hub for all bus services. Whilst it is possible to get to many places without a change of bus, when a change is required it normally occurs at the harbour.

Torquay Railway station is situated at the far end of Torquay seafront and is therefore NOT in the centre of town. Having said that it is an easy location to find and there is a taxi rank at the station. Taxis in Torquay are not expensive in comparison to other parts of the country.
