Transport to and from the island
Tips on getting to and from the island: There are two ferry services - one is for passengers only (Sealink) and the other is also for vehicles, formerly "FansaSea Cruising" (now Magnetc Island Ferries). This can be confusing, so please note their different locations and sailing times. Airport/Ferry timetables: Don't get stranded! Remember that some of those bargain airfares only arrive after the last ferry to the island has left and the bargain earlybird flights out of Townsville airport depart before you can get a ferry off the island. Taxis are right outside the luggage claim area. The airport shuttle service is called Townsville Shuttle and you should book it to be sure of a seat : http://shuttletsv.com.au/
This is the main passenger ferry. It operates from early morning to late at night and takes about 25 minutes between the mainland and the island. You can get a taxi or shuttle from the airport easily; the trip takes about 15 minutes. There is a parking lot, if you want to leave your vehicle on the mainland while visiting the island.

This ferry service is for vehicles as well as walk-on passengers. It operates from a terminal on the south side of Ross Creek - opposite the regular passenger ferry - and does NOT have a bus or shuttle service from the airport. It is moderately expensive to bring your car to the island on the vehicular ferry, but the COST INCLUDES up to 5 PASSENGERS. It costs about the same for walk-on passengers as the Sealink ferry, but is less convenient to get to, takes longer and runs less often. This ferry service runs from early morning to early evening ONLY. The trip takes about 45 minutes. There is a parking lot, if you wish to leave your vehicle (or trailer) on the mainland while visiting the island. This is a good idea if you are travelling with a large camper van or trailer.
