Flea Markets & Thrift Stores
First Monday (in Canton, Texas) is one of the oldest and largest outdoor flea markets in the US. (there are also a few air conditioned indoor areas). Whether it's unique Texas yard art, turkey legs, or hippie clothes & hats, you will love it. It is held on one weekend per month; the weekend before the first Monday of each month. It is about a 45 minute drive and a very safe place to spend the day. The hours: Thursday - Sunday are sun up to sundown. It is huge and if you have any mobility issues, there are power carts available for rental. Directions: Take I-20 East to FM 859 South (exit # 527). Take a right (South) on FM 859 and go about 2-3 miles to the west gate parking area. This is the 'back' entrance of the flea market and has considerably less traffic than the main road going into Canton. The schedule for 2020 is as follows: 5/28 - 5/31 * check to see for sure if it is open 7/2 - 7/5 7/30-8/2 9/3-9/6 10/1-10/4 10/29-11/1 12/3-12/6

Food scene
This is a small, cozy family run Greek restaurant in Mesquite with a wonderful atmosphere and tasty authentic Greek food. 469-802-9797. It only has a few tables, so I recommend calling ahead.

Memorials
There are three main areas memorializing President Kennedy: Dealey Plaza is the street area where he was assassinated. Park in a nearby area and walk to Dealey Plaza. From there you can walk on down the sidewalk of the street. The Sixth Floor Museum is indoors and has a large display of pictures and video from the day as well as Kennedy memorabilia. The Kennedy Memorial is nearby as well.

Dallas area; what's opened back up
Most businesses are opened back up in Texas as of the week of May 18th, and everything will be open on May 22. In Dallas County, restaurants and bars are required to be at 50% or less capacity so reservations are suggested. Masks are required indoors at some stores and restaurants and not at others. New, unused home-made masks are left at the home for your use, and are yours to keep.
