We just love Xlendi Bay! Just 40sec walk from Xlendi Central Apartment https://airbnb.com/h/xlendicentral LOVELY BEACH The sandy beach is small but there is a long waterfront promenade with many benches and ladders to get into and out of Xlendi's crystal clear aquamarine waters! Of course if you love jumping into the sea, you'll certainly love it! WATERSPORTS It's not only perfect for swimming, snorkelling, sunbathing, coastal and cliff hiking, but also a haven of a lot of watersports services on the beach, namely: sea kayaking, towables (crazy sofa), row boats with slide, stand up paddle (SUP), self driven boats for couples and famillies, jet skis, fishing and more. RESTAURANTS & BARS We're very lucky to have some of the best places to dine out in Gozo at Xlendi bay. Great, locally sourced fish of the day, meat dishes, homemade pasta and mouthwatering desserts make the perfect place and choice by panoramic Xlendi bay. VIEWS Absolutely gorgeous views of beach, cliffs, Xlendi tower, saltpans, Karolina cave and more... We strongly recommend you to take a short walk the whole promenade till the secluded Kantra beach, the 17th century tower of Xlendi and the saltpans as well as walk up the rocky steps and discover the sisters' cave. Just amazing! SUNSETS This is the place to be in Gozo for awesome sunsets in the evening. Book a restaurant table at Il Terrazzo restaurant or Il-Kcina Ghawdxija restaurant in the evening and enjoy the impressive sunset over Xlendi bay, its high cliffs and tower.

In the 1950s with the Cold War escalating, it became evident that nuclear conflict in Europe was a possibility. In the event of the lines of communication being cut, the British Colonial Office took a decision to build several underground flour mills in the Maltese islands, which would give the local population at least a staple diet of bread, should other sources of food be denied to them. Of the eight underground mills built, only one was located on Gozo, in the village of Ix-Xlendi. During the years 1954/1955, the Ix-Xlendi mill was excavated into the cliffs, situated behind the Mount Carmel church. The excavation was a huge undertaking, which consisted firstly of an entrance tunnel, some 30 meters long, 2.5 meters high and 3 meters wide, leading into a large chamber. This chamber was divided into three floors and housed the storage, grinding and milling equipment. Note: the flour mill is open only upon request from Munxar Local Council.

Places to visit on Gozo
Xlendi Central Apartment https://airbnb.com/h/xlendicentral Our home town - Xlendi Bay is a great place to discover the island of Gozo as it has everything you need. It is in fact a charming easy going village with a beautiful bay and gorgeous cliffs by the sea on either side of its mouth. This makes it ideal for a perfect swim in its crystal clear waters. Besides, it's got spectacular coastal and cliff walks to Xlendi tower, Karolina cave, Ta' Sanap and Ta' Cenc cliffs, Mgarr ix-Xini or Dwejra bay. Xlendi is also one of our favourite places for lunch, a cuppa or an ice cream in one of its amazing waterfront restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. If you are looking for some adventure, boat hire, kayak hire, boat tours, diving centres around the coast of Xlendi are plentiful. Connections are just excellent. In the main square where our apartment is located, just 40sec walk from the beach, you'll also find the main bus stop to capital Victoria, sightseeing buses, car hire, electric car sharing and plenty of free street parking. Xlendi is certainly the perfect spot as a home away from home and the water is basically at your feet, just off the corner from our apartment. • SHOPPING A small grocery shop XLENDI MINI MARKET is just around the corner! Only 10 metres from the apartment building. It opens everyday, including Sundays between 7am and 8pm. • RESTAURANTS & PUBS Waterfront restaurants and pubs are only 1 minute walk from your home. Below, we are recommending two good restaurants in Xlendi. The Boathouse restaurant and Il-Kcina Ghawdxija. The Front bar (located just 2min walk from apartment) is an excellent choice to chill out in the evenings. More details on our chalkboard in the dining area. • PIZZA One good pizza place just 40sec walk from apartment we recommend is at Churchill Restaurant where excellent gluten free pizza is also available. Yes, you can also order pizza to take away to bring home or eat while you’re sitting or sunbathing by the waterfront. • COFFEE, TEA, DAILY FRESH SLICED PIZZA & PASTIZZI Just 10m from our apartment building, you'll find a small coffee shop selling daily fresh sliced pizza and traditional pastizzi (cheesecakes and peacakes). Very popular with both locals and visitors to Xlendi who often stop by and have a chat while sipping a capuccino or espresso with some mouth watering pastizzi! Opens daily 7am till 8pm including Sundays. • ATM & BANKS Well, the nearest ATM (HSBC bank) is just 40m from the apartment. Exactly in front Gelateria Granola (ice cream shop). It accepts all major credit cards (Quickcash, VISA, MASTERCARD, cirrus, VISA Electron, maestro and Plus). The nearest banks (APS Bank, Bank of Valletta, HSBC or BNF Bank) are all in Main Gate Street and Republic Street, Victoria – 10 minutes by bus #306 or #330 and 3 to 8 minutes on foot from Victoria bus station.

Recently restored, the Gozo Citadel locally known as ic-Cittadella is an essential part of the history of Gozo island. Centrally located overlooking Victoria, Gozo’s capital city, the Citadel protected for centuries to local inhabitants from the never ending invasions on this little island. Today, visiting the Citadel is journey back into history where you can understand what it meant to live on a small unprotected island for centuries. Bastions, narrow streets, old houses, museums, exhibitions, cathedral, chapels, niches are only some of the Citadel’s characteristics waiting to be discovered. How to get there: Take bus #306 or #330 from the main bus stop near the apartment. Leave the bus at Victoria bus station (last stop). Walk up Republic Street towards the Citadel.

The prehistoric megalithic temples known as ‘Ggantija’ are found on one of the flat topped hills which dot the Gozitan countryside. There are two Gozo temples, the North and the South one. Basically they are very identical. However what is amazing and what many travellers ask is: How could people 3600 years BC have carried such huge slabs? Where did they bring these megalithic stones from? Unfortunately, many questions remain unanswered though archaeological research is on going on the island. The structure is truly impressive and its history is truly inspiring. By Bus: Take bus #306 or #330 from Xlendi main bus stop in Pjazza Anfori (Anfori Square) just 40sec walk from Xlendi Central Apartment. At Victoria Bus Station, please change bus to #307 and stop at bus stop named Imqades or Tempji. By Car: Drive from Xlendi bay to Victoria and then take the road (passing from in front LIDL on your right) to Xaghra village. The temples are on the first RIGHT corner after you go all the winding road up to Xaghra. VIRTUAL TOUR and INFO. https://heritagemalta.org/ggantija-temples/

Famous for its red sandy beach and for being the largest beach on Gozo island, Ramla bay is popular throughout the whole year. Of course summer time is the busiest period at Ramla bay because many flock to this gorgeous beach for swimming and sunbathing. However, in autumn and winter time, maybe it is even more attractive. It is certainly more quiet and makes an ideal place for a coastal walk on the island.

Which bus to the Azure Window please? A question you’ll certainly still hear at the bus station on the island. Unfortunately since 8 March 2017, the Azure Window at Dwejra Bay collapsed due to the huge waves… Dwejra bay lies in the south west part of Gozo island. The Blue Hole next to the Azure Window site, the Crocodile Rock, the Fungus Rock, the Inland Sea, St.Anne’s Chapel and the oldest tower on the island all capture your attention in Dwejra, a UNESCO world site heritage. Best Recommendation: coastally walk from Xlendi Central Apartment to Dwejra bay! Absolutely an amazing holiday hike in pure nature between sun, sea and cliffs!
