Food Scene

There is no place quite like Kibbitznest in all of Chicago, or for that matter, in the US. Part bookstore, part cocktail lounge, part coffee + tea shop, Kibbitznest was designed to facilitate conversations. They encourage guests to disconnect from electronic devices, and indulge in old-fashioned, face-to-face conversations, dive into some of the numerous books on their shelves (lovingly curated by the staff), or play one of their many board games with friends, while imbibing a craft beverage from their extensive menu. It is our favorite place to be when not at home (conveniently located 15 seconds away from our front door) - pop into Kibbitznest, and you'll see what we mean!

One of Chicago's most popular pizza spots also features long wait times, but fortunately, you are staying right across the street from it, so it's a breeze to pop in to Pequod's to place a to-go order, return to hang out at the house, then scoot right back out pick up your order!

Spacious and clean restaurant that offers delicious Middle Eastern fare, including vegetarian and vegan options, that won't break the bank. Family-owned and run, everyone who works there is lovely, and will gladly share their favorite items to order from an extensive menu that features unique family recipes. Tip: Get the shawerma sandwiches (spicy style) and koshari (an ancient peasant dish, an Egyptian ratatouille). Then walk your meal off with a stroll down Fullerton Avenue.

Chef Christine McCabe (Bon Appetit Magazine's Pastry Chef of the Year) recently opened this place in the neighborhood just this year. The name Interurban derives from the trains that went from the country to the city and back - this inspired Christine's idea for treats using ingredients that can be found in the country, and putting an urban spin on them. Stop in - you might just find your favorite childhood treat here, reinvented, of course!

Parks & Nature

Lyman Frank Baum, a children's author and the creator of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, was a resident of the Lincoln Park area in the 1890s. Remembering its former resident, fans of The Wizard of Oz would gather in the park for an Oz Festival to honor the famous book, movie, and author every year. The park was officially named Oz Park in 1976. Soon, the Oz Park Advisory Council raised money to install sculptures of the Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow and Dorothy & Toto by sculptor John Kearney in the Park. A wonderful place to take an evening stroll or read a book on the many benches in the park, while taking in views of Chicago.
