Food Scene

Crolla's is a popular local restaurant 7 minutes walk upstream along the pretty River Esk, tucked away in a traditional courtyard. Outdoor seating in summer months. Parilla Bueno Ayres in Musselburgh is a fine dining spot that specializes in Argentine cuisine. Specialises in steaks, is very highly rated and has been voted top in Scotland in 2023. Not cheap but one guest said it was the best wine he'd ever had and the steak was fantastic. x For fish and chips, try East Coast - Italian-run take-away (order online or turn up) with a fish and seafood restaurant next door. Multi-award-winning food. Quirky hours so check in advance. Also, several take-aways. Try taking your meal just 150m north to the Fisherrow beach and enjoy eating al fresco to the sound of the waves and wonderful view across to the Fife coast.. x There are many and varied food outlets (from 9pm just check that you can still eat). There are many take-aways too: Indian, Chinese, British, Turkish, Ghurka (Indian), etc. The Harbour Cafe, at the harbour (doh!), Miro's, usual coffee shops - like Costa, Subway, Greggs' bakery offer cheap takeaway food. The Brunton Theatre has a good coffee shop/ bistro, open daytime; also evenings when there is a performance. (currently a roofing problem has displaced events to other local venues). The Ravelston Hotel is popular and has several outdoor tables for drinks and/ or food. Just beyond it, The original Ship Inn has been refurbished as a modern seaside restaurant - popular, if noisy. with a lively crowd. Portobello, a 10 minute ride on No. 26 bus, has many bistro/ restaurants along the promenade and several takeaways to enjoy at promenade seating. Very pleasant on a warm summer's evening. (Parking is often difficult in bustly Portobello). There are several excellent bistros and restaurants- Malvarosa, Forrester's, Bonaful, for example.
