Cafe Arnou Cocktail & Wine Bar - The food is lovely here, especially the French toast with bacon/ maple syrup, with great coffee for breakfast. For the evening or afternoon there is a good cocktail menu and the kids can even have mocktails! This makes it a place I visit several times during my stay.

Only half hour drive to gain a wonderful food experience you will want to repeat. You will love the tiny tarts that came out to tease you when waiting for your starters and the warm breads and soft butter are irresistable. Horn Head is magnificent and is a two-hundred-metre rock face scored by ledges on which perch countless guillemots and gulls and small numbers of puffins. The best view of the cliffs, sea-stacks and caves is from the water, but the cliff road is vertiginous enough in places to give you a good look down the sheer sides, thus providing a super adventure, but keep both hands firmly gripped on the wheel... or if you're feeling up to it take a walk. Super views and photo opps for the wild atlantic way. If you can, venture to the lookout... its sure to blow the cobwebs off!

Every castle has its legends of tragedy, romance, and...ghosts. Doe Castle is no exception. A song written by a Creeslough poet recounts the tragic love story of Aileen and Turough O'Boyle. When Aileen's father slashed Turough with his sword until he died. Aileen witnessed all of this from the round tower of the castle and in desperate agony, she jumped from the tower window to her death. Local fishermen, even today, swear that they have seen the ghosts of two young lovers, smiling and rowing, so don't go at night!

Parks & Nature

A Forest Park which leads to beaches on the shores of Sheephaven Bay, contains the most stunning views! The Park has many signposted forest walks integrating the main features of the park. These include the Ards Heritage Trail, which is around 3.5 km long, the Nature Trail and the Green Trail, which are both approximately 3 km long, and the Red Trail, which is 13 km long, though this walk does give provisions for a shortcut back to the starting point should it be needed (phew!). There are various viewing points on the walks and trails with views of the surrounding countryside. Take a picnic on a sunny day!

An extensive sandy beach in a rural environment. The beach has surfing, kayaking and the 'The Shack'; a friendly coffee shop with folk who serve amazing coffee. They also have warm croissants with ham and cheese to die for. An ideal place to shelter from the bad weather or an amazing place to see the views.

A fantastic beach to discover with almost a mile of glorious clean sand and the views are spectacular......Inishboffin, Tory, Horn Head and Muckish.....probably a few surfers practicing on the waves! This is nice long beach for walking all year round and also great for viewing the Aurora dance in the sky! When I was out surfing with the kids, a Seal popped his head up next to us to say hello, now that's the Irish Welcome!

If you wannabe surfer who is still trying to "get up" and ride that first wave, you can rent some boards and wetsuits here for a good price! If there is no surf, due to the sea being flat, Jaws also offer kayaking and cliff diving! You will be amazed at all the sea life you see from simply jumping off and overcoming your fear!

Lurgybrack Farm park has a beautiful walk with a variety of animals to see, but the walk itself is also very calm and pretty. It also has two indoor bouncy castles (if you catch a shower) and a large playground, however the highlights are a zip line and foam slide (they say water but you don't get wet). The staff are brilliant and its worth a visit as a child's entertainment day with elements of farm, rather than a true farm experience where you need those wellies.

This is one of my families favourite shops - a compact shop full of lovely unusual food items, a lovely selection of cheeses and cold cured meats, we nearly visit every time and always buy something. The owners are very helpful and informative, definitely worth a visit.
