Sightseeing

This is a fabulous wooden structure deserves a look. Sometimes I just enjoy walking around the building at night to observe all the exterior detail. The museum shop has some good information about the area. Here you can purchase a historic home tour book.

This is Astoria's main attraction. The view from up here is incredible. There is a $5 parking fee if you drive up. IF you want to climb the column, consider purchasing a small glider plane at the gift shop to toss off the top. This place is a good spot for sunsets but make sure you bring something warm to wear. It can get chilly.

The astoria riverwalk is about a 4 mile paved trail that goes along the river. My favorite part is the stretch from 39th street going east. This is a very safe and easy trail for running. During the cold season, the wooden areas freeze up and can be very slick.

Fort Clatsop is a great place for all visitors. My favorite part about this park are the trails. They are very well maintained! If you're a runner or hiker, this is a good place to check out. For a short hike, do the 3-4 mile loop that goes from the fort up to the Lower South Slough and then connects with the Netul River Trail..

Cape Disappointment is a fun half day trip. I recommend the museum and a walk up to the lighthouse. IF you go out on the north jetty you can observe the large waves crashing against the cliffs.

On your way to cape disappointment, this is a fun little stop. Down by the river there is a small trail that takes you down to pirates cove. Here you can climb over the rocks and have an incredible view of the Columbia. This is a fun picnic spot. The upper part of the park has a trail that takes you into the forest filled with large spruce trees.

This place offers all sorts of fun. For me, it is the closes access to the beach from Astoria. If you have a bike, there are tons of trails to explore.

If you're heading home on HWY 30 and you want to connect with I-5, there is a ferry in Westport that takes you across the Columbia. It probably doesn't make the trip faster but it sure makes it more fun.

City/town information

Oysterville is a historic town located about 40 min north of Astoria. If you like historic settings, this might be worth a trip. The town has a small seafood shop that sells clam chowder. Here you can have an expansive view over Willapa bay.

Consejos para la ciudad

Facilidad para moverse por la casa

walking is the best way to get around astoria.

It is nice to drive around town to look at the historic neighborhoods. There are lots of little pockets with historic homes. For a list of historic homes, go to the Flavel house and pick up a "historic home tour book."
