My Favorite Local Spots

Beaches and Rivers around the area to visit
Personal Favorite: There is a 5-kilometre trail that connects Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park with the Top Bridge Crossing. There is a pedestrian-cyclist suspension bridge spanning the Englishman River. Take your bike and ride from the urban sea-side to the cool woodlands of the Englishman River. The mid-section of trail passes through private property, so users are requested to stay on the authorized route. At Top Bridge itself you can take a dip in the cool river, or sit on the rocks and enjoy the sun and the cliff jumpers. Loads of fun here, I spent many childhood summer days at Top Bridge.

In Parksville, the waterfront Community Park is a must visit especially if you have kids!! This 39 acre Community Park lives is a gathering place and site for events and festivals. There is plenty of space on the beach for everyone and the park offers recreational facilities to satisfy the whole family. There is a great playground for the kids. This is where they host the World Famous sandcastle competition each year.

Close by towns and municipalities

Parksville is a small city As of the 2016, Parksville's population was 12,514. Parksville is well known for its large, sandy beaches at Parksville Bay and Craig Bay (where we are). It has a grocery stores, Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Dairy Queen, some quality restuarants, and few small stores that are interesting to browse thru. Parksville community park is great for kids, with lots of playground equipment right beside the beach

Nanaimo is the closest larger city and where the ferries arrive from the mainland (Vancouver). There is a beautiful seawall to walk along, and you can check out the historic Bastion which is an 1853 wooden tower with cannon firings in summer (a Nanaimo landmark). North Nanaimo, has the largest mall on this side of the island. You can catch a small foot passenger ferry to Newcastle Island, which is a wonderful day trip (take a picnic lunch)
