City/town information

"If you’ve never pulled off the highway and explored The Dalles, you’ve been missing a lot – a perfectly preserved downtown, incredible vistas from Sorosis Park, a fantastic outdoor playground and super friendly small town folk. Located along the shores of the Columbia and near the Deschutes River, we’re the eastern gateway to the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area and near the Mt. Hood National Forest. The Dalles is uniquely situated in the rain shadow of Mt. Hood and while it’s raining in Portland, you can be outside hiking, kayaking, hunting, fly fishing, skiing, windsurfing or whitewater rafting under clear blue skies. Some of the best cycling in Oregon is right here, and The Dalles Cycling Association has teamed with the Chamber of Commerce to produce an insider’s map to the best road cycling in the Gorge. Explore our historic murals, the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Wasco County Historical Museum and the Fort Dalles Museum. The Dalles Art Center has fantastic art on display for sale. Up the road, Maryhill Museum of Art has the second largest Auguste Rodin collection on the West Coast, Theatre de la Mode dolls, and the largest public display of Native American basketry in North America. Explore the area’s Native American history at The Museum at Warm Springs or the pictographs and petroglyphs at Columbia Hills State Park. Wile away the hours at one of our many parks or join the fun at one of our annual events. Try everything cherry at the Northwest Cherry Festival held every April. Or join us in August for the Cruise the Gorge Classic Weekend and the Dufur Threshing Bee. Be sure to experience our Sunsational Charm Trail, a one of a kind scavenger hunt which will take you on journeys all across The Dalles. Whatever you enjoy, you’ll find it in sunsational The Dalles!"
