Swimming

24 minutes by car from Riverside Folkhouse, Ginnie Springs is a world famous spot for cave diving and you can pay local diving instructors to take you diving there. Ginnie boasts several beautiful high magnitude springs. Our favorite way to visit these springs is by boat on the Santa Fe River, but you can also pay to visit for a day by car. Be warned the day fee is a bit pricey.

Hiking

20 minutes by car, O'Leno is a really great spot for hiking and a pretty good spot for swimming in the Santa Fe River. We usually visit more for the hiking than anything else. Ideal spot to bring a picnic and spend the day hiking, birding, and looking at Florida nature.

City/town information

20 minutes by car. High Springs is the nearest small town for shopping (unless you count Fort White's Dollar Store). High Springs has a cute downtown with a handful of restaurants and local shops, and has one of the nearest grocery stores (Winn Dixie).

Sightseeing

Rum 138 is a great spot to visit for a number of reasons. They sell kayaks and SUPS and other river gear and they can outfit you and carry you and a boat to a river adventure, they also have live music, food, and beer some nights of the week. The owner is also wonderfully knowledgeable about the ecology of the local water shed and local conservation efforts.

For the cyclists

There is a nice paved bike trail that runs from the entrance of our neighborhood and connects Ichetucknee State Park with Oleno State Park, you can also ride it from Oleno into High Springs and jump back on a paved trail to ride to Poe Springs. Lots of great cycling in this area that we are happy to tell you about if you message us! We have a couple loaner bikes at the house that guests may use to cruise around the neighborhood, the cruiser is probably the best choice for our dirt roads.

For the paddlers

We LOVE canoeing and kayaking and spend a lot of time on the Ichetucknee, Santa Fe, Suwannee, and other rivers and streams all over the southeast. Bring your own boats or rent a kayak from Rum138.com to paddle the Santa Fe River, or Ichetuckneesprings.com to paddle the Itchetucknee. If you’d like advice on how long it will take to get from point a to point b, where to put in and take out, etc., please ask us! We love to share tips on this topic with visitors.
