Sightseeing

When you think of a beautiful beach, you think sandy shores and miles of sparkling blue ocean as far as the eye can see. That's not the kind of beauty you will find at this "beach". What you will see instead is a peacful walkway and a park dedicated to those who have or are currently fighting cancer. i made sure to ring the bell three times in loving memory of my father that recently lost his battle to myeloma. opposite the walk way is a neighborhood full of Victorian style architecture in various stages of renovation. Just a mile up the road from Phoenix On Bain, a nice little stop for a quick stroll and architectural sightseeing. There is also a boat rental and bait shop and private pier if you are looking to do a little fishing or crabbing.

Don't let the name fool you, I couldn't find any place that you could swim. But this walk has great views of the Elizabeth River which separates Portsmouth and Downtown Norfolk. You will see boats, kayakers and the Downtown Norfolk skyline. Street parking is available throughout the neighborhood where you will see an interesting mix of architecture.

I went so you don't have to

Don't bother trying to find this beach park. After lots of driving around and seeing some amazing houses on accident...gps and phone going crazy as well. I finally found the entrance to this park tuck behind a building and lots of construction. This beach park looks really cool but the sign at the entrance makes it apparent that it is for Old Dominion Residents, plus you have to pay for parking. ..if you can find any. So just leave this spot to the locals in walking distance. I took a picture but for some reason this area had my phone glitching and alas the pic is nowhere to be found in my phone.

Family Beach

This beach park is amazing if you have kids 5 and up and enjoy calm beach waters. There is ample free beach parking, a nice park (5-12 year old), bike repair station, nice basket ball court, right over the hill you find a clean beach with calm waves. Every now again a helicopter will fly over. Dogs are allowed before 10 AM and after 6pm. This beach is closed at Sunset just like a park. The shore is lined with a gorgeous neighborhood with a mixture of Victorian, Colonial and Contemporary Architecture. This beach is only about 13 miles from Phoenix On Bain, however, due to the route it may take 25-30 minutes to get there.

locals beach

The locals beach that you will love. I almost didn't stop here but so glad I did. The water was so calm and clear thanks to the rocks that line the shore creating little pools. Was surprised to see people fishing with just a line and a net. Parking is free you just have to park along the neighborhood streets. Anywhere there isn't a no parking sign starting on 11th bay. This will be one of my go to places when I just want some quiet time and to float in the water. Less crowded and very relaxing. Pets are allowed before 10 am and after 6pm.
