I would realy recommend that you visit Park Rakov Skocjan wich is only 10 min drive from the house. Its park with old forest and interesting caves that you dont need a guide to explore. Also its best to visit when its hot outside since it has very cool shade. On an afternoon walk, one can observe millions of years of geological processes which shaped this little karst valley. Therefore, it is not at all surprising that it was nominated to be included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Cerknica lake is few minutes with car. Keep in mind that during the summer most of the water goes underground since our lake is intermittent lake. A plain that can turn into the largest Slovenian lake after a mere three days of heavy rain; a lake that can all but disappear just as quickly in the summer draught. The surface of the lake undergoes small changes every day. In extreme cases, it can stretch over more than 30 km2, and shrink to only 0.1 km2 in the summer time. Regardless of the water levels, Lake Cerknica offer wonderful vistas and a variety of ways to spend your free time, which include cycling, hiking, swimming, paddling, and hay cart rides.

You can visit Krizna cave. This cave is world-renowned water karst cave, whose specifics are numerous underground lakes, different animal species, location of a cave bear, archaeological remains and natural preservation. I think this cave is better experience than Postojna cave since its smaller and more laid back. It is the only naturally preserved tourist cave in Slovenia. In summer its short visit with boat ride on 1st lake (1 - 1,15h) is possible everyday at 11, 13, 15 and 17 hour (without prior reservation). If you visiting other times in year, check their website. Dress warm!

When its been raining, its interesting to see the Cemun Springs. Basicly the water from a caves under the hill comes puring out on the open and starts to fill the lake if there is enough rain. If not, its still interesting and beautifull. And its easy walk even for kids.

Trail of breathtaking views of Cerknica Lake. The Drvošec educational trail runs from the Rešeto gullets and ends cca. 500 meters before the bridge in front of the village of Otok. The trail mostly runs through the forest and with its length of 3.7 km (one way) is suitable for anyone (do remember to put on suitable hiking footwear). The trail through the unspoiled nature of Lake Cerknica is enriched by numerous information or didactic points. The most valuable are the views from the Kuharca, Klejni vrh and Otočec (10 meters in height) watching towers, which offer a view of the exceptional dimensions of this karst phenomenon. The trail is marked with a bird (bittern) icon, which you can follow on the markings on the pillars throughout the trail.

Snežnik is one of only two Slovenian castles with original decoration (the furniture from the chambers dates back to the second half of the 19th century). The castle’s surroundings are just as captivating as its interior: the beautiful nature that encircles this former hunting residence owned by the Saxon princes of Schönburg-Waldenburg is ideal for short strolls in the fresh air. The castle is also a very popular wedding venue, testament to its remarkable beauty.

The world’s largest castle built in a cave – mysterious, formidable, and unconquerable. Predjama Castle represents an extraordinary marriage of nature and medieval ingenuity. Legend speaks of Erazem, the brigand knight, who would easily resist long sieges by supplying food and water to the castle through the cave – until one of his servants betrayed him, that is.

Lake Cerknica Museum. Lake Cerknica changes every day: the water level fluctuates constantly, as does the depth of the river bed, which is generally between 1 and 5 m, occasionally exceeding even these limits. To really understand the lake, you should observe it at least once a week. Alternatively, you can visit the Lake Cerknica Museum in Dolenje Jezero. The focal point of the museum is the scale model of Lake Cerknica, which demonstrates how water flows into the lake and fills it up, and how it disappears underground on dry summer days. You can also view footage of the lake in all seasons, and see a collection of old tools and utensils that helped locals live alongside the unpredictable lake.
