The Square Peg restaurant & bar occupies the building (circa 1790) of the former antique store of the same name. Just a 5 minute walk to the south you will find it on the corner of Water St. and Miller St. It is a popular spot for lunch and dinner that serves straightforward / no nonsense food at affordable prices. There is a bar with many draft beers that rotate daily. Two of our favorite menu items are the Falafel wrap with fries and the Riverside Reuben. Can get a little loud on busy nights. Closed Sunday - Monday. Locally owned and operated by Joel and Amy Cary.

As a child, I loved going to Rod's Grill with my mom (before becoming a vegetarian). A Rhode Island favorite called a hot wienie all the way (mustard, raw onion, and meat sauce) is a staple item on the menu. Of course, it's great with fries and a coffee milk. This is a classic diner that has been serving the community for many years. It is also a great place for breakfast.

Kingscote is a landmark of the Gothic Revival style in American architecture. Its appearance in Newport marked the beginning of the "cottage boom" that would distinguish the town as a veritable laboratory for the design of picturesque houses throughout the 19th century. In 1839 Southern planter George Noble Jones commissioned architect Richard Upjohn to design a summer cottage along a country road, known as Bellevue Avenue, on the outskirts of town. Upjohn created a highly original "cottage orne," or ornamental cottage, in the Gothic Revival style.

The Isaac Bell House is one of the best surviving examples of shingle style architecture in the country. After passing through a succession of owners, the Isaac Bell House was purchased by the Preservation Society in 1996, and is today designated a National Historic Landmark. Hunter House is one of the finest examples of Georgian Colonial architecture from Newport's "golden age" in the mid-18th century. The house was built and decorated when Newport was a cosmopolitan city with a principle of religious tolerance that attracted Quakers, Baptists, Congregationalists and Sephardic Jews. The great mercantile families lived patrician lives, building harbor-front mansions overlooking their trading ships, and entertained in grand style. They bought furniture and silver from local craftsmen and were the patrons of such important early painters as Robert Feke and Gilbert Stuart.

Nice little market with all the necessary items for cooking. I wish they had more organic fruits and veggies, but I do love the proximity and size.
It takes about 2 minutes to drive over the bridges to Barrington. This Shaw's has many organic and vegetarian foods, along with the regular American "diet"... the shopping center has a book store, cvs, talbots and starbucks

Doreen owns and runs the wonderful antique shop just around the corner from us. There are more than a few items from this store adorning our home. If you stop in, make sure to tell her we said hello!

A favorite springtime destination of ours to tour the beautiful and endless daffodil gardens. The Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum is an arboretum of 13 hectares (32 acres), located at 101 Ferry Road, Bristol, Rhode Island, midway between Newport and Providence, Rhode Island, on Bristol Harbor with views over Narragansett Bay. It includes a mansion, with a 4 hectares (9.9 acres) lawn and over 300 species of woody plants in its arboretum and gardens, including both native and exotic species.
