We love this local poke spot, which lets you choose which type of rice (or greens), several types of fresh poke and all sorts of toppings. Servings are generous and the poke is always fresh.

With two James Beard nominations (Best Chef NW: 2017, 2018 and 2024) and accolades in publications from Portland Monthly to Bon Appétit, this family of self-described “professional home cooks” has for 20 years established a devoted following at their two locations Ha VL (2738 SE 82nd Avenue) and Rose VL Deli (6424 SE Powell). In December, the family opened a third location, Annam VL right here in the Sunnyside Neighborhood. Delicious súp from all different regions of Vietnam.

Our friends Brenda and Charles own this sweet brewery/beer garden. The excellent beer, made by Charles, keeps winning awards, the latest being the slightly tart Electric Sunshine, which won a Good Food Award in 2024.
